They flagged my car for ordering the same exact part more than 3 times. Now they will only order those parts if I bring the car in for service.
The service rep told me the system flagged my car because it's suspicious that I'm most likely ordering parts for other cars. Why would Tesla care if you ordered 100 of the same trim piece? Why the cloak and dagger over car parts? It's not like you are ordering black market kidneys.

Why would it be an issue if you are ordering it for other cars? Maybe you are building a homeless shelter out of Tesla parts.
Surprisingly, more people agree with you than you think.Agreed. Only Tesla has this idiotic policy.
I'm not going to be popular saying this - but this is where the dealer/franchise model is FAR superior to Tesla's model. Buying a Tesla is far better, but getting one serviced or lord help buying parts for one is like a 3rd world experience.
like 90% of parts can be sold to you... hell, call the parts line at corporate if you want something.
I would push them to sell you parts. Preventing you from doing so because you’ve ordered more than 3 of the same part is absurd.
Especially given their monopoly on providing parts I can’t imagine it’s even legal... Honestly, I’m not even sure how they can justify requiring a VIN to sell you parts.
Hell, if someone wanted to pay full retail price to buy their parts to stock and sell to other people, they should be applauding that person/company. We would all benefit from this. Tesla’s spare parts supply chain is horrendous. If someone wants to risk some capital to do a better job than Tesla, more power to them. Tesla’s monopoly on parts and service is abhorrent (and extremely concerning as an owner).
Depends more on what you want to buy. What are you trying to buy? What WERE you trying to buy at the time?I was phoning for parts from Rocklin, was told they only sell to auto repair places. I called Tesla Fremont, got told the same thing. It depends, A LOT, on who you talk to, I guess. Next time, I'll call you.
