Anyone running 255/45/18 on OEM Aeros?

Bit more width, but more sidewall.

Have a MY that I replaced the OEM 255/40/20 for 255/45/20. I like the extra sidewall. 1” more in that case so hoping to achieve the same on a 3 that I’m planning on picking up in next few months.

235/45/18 is a lot of sidewall already. I could see 245/45/18 but honestly it doesn’t sound like 255/45/18 is a great idea.

Have you looked at the tire weights of 255/45/18? Even the summer tires are 26-29 lbs.

225-235/45/18 tires can be as low as 21-23 lbs. I would think that weight difference alone wouldn’t be worth it.
 
I suggest 245/45R18 for 18x8.5" wheels on this car (like the stock aero wheels). That's my setup now with 300 TW performance tires and it feels great.

245mm is a standard, recommended width for 8.5" wide wheels, whereas 255mm would be a little oversized.

245/45R18 diameter will fit just fine on this car with any tire. Whereas 255/45R18 is pushing the limit of knuckle clearance, it may fit, but some tires that run large won't fit in that size.

Finally - this is very important! - last I checked there's a much better selection of tire models for this car in 245/45R18 than 255/45R18. At least among performance tires. :)

I just had a set of Firestone Indy 500s in 255/40-19s installed and they fit fine. The dimensional specifications are similar. I'm on 19 x 8.5 +35 with a 5mm spacer. It clears the top of the knuckle by nature just under a 1/4 inch. In the size I bought, it may be running slightly smaller than the specified diameter. Of course, I can't speak to the 255/45-18 with any certainty.

A 255/45R18 should fit at 27”. A few models oversized by as much as .2 to .3” have rubbed, but TireRack.com lists specific diameters of everything they sell.

This size will be a little less crisp in handling on an 8.5” wheel, but will indeed maximize curb protection and bump compliance.

I think the specs on Tire Rack's page are provided by the tire manufacturer. My tires are sources with a diameter of 27.1" and fits. Another member has 27.3"tires but is making contact. There's a difference of greater than 0.1" looking at both our photos. I'd about relying on the posted specs for tighter fits.
 
I'm curious how the 255s looked on your Aeros. Post up a pic here with them ! I installed 255/35R20 Pilot Sport 4S on my Zero-G 20x9 ET34 wheels to try and give them a bit more protection due to the horrible roads we have in the SF Bay Area (see my avatar). After having them installed, I'm pretty sureI I could have fit 265/35 and wish I had tried.

Recently, in prep for a road trip as well as for ski trips to tahoe, I got some 18" wheels and am heading to America's Tire to test fit the new Vredestein Quadrac Pro+ in 225/55R18 to see if it will clear. I have already used an angle grinder to shave the required 2-3mm extra clearance from top ball joint mount area of the knuckle in order to fit the claimed 27.8" diameter. This size is rated 1874lbs rated vs the 1389lbs of the stock P3 MPS4Ss. The new Quadrac Pro+ are supposed to be 5% less rolling resistance and %5 better snow acceleration than the Quadrac Pro it replaces.

PROTIP: select the 20" performance wheels in your vehicle setup screen in order to minimize speedometer error when fitting oversized tires. These are the possible stock tire diameters:

235/45R18: 26.3", 766 Revs/Mile
235/40R19: 26.4", 764 Revs/Mile
235/35R20: 26.5" 762 Revs/Mile

By selecting the 20" wheel/tire config you slightly reduce the speedometer error as the computer uses the 26.5" diameter for calculations, rather than the 26.3" diameter of the 18" wheel configuration.
