Auto Present Solution

How do you give brilliant ideas to Tesla? People who use their garage frequently (trash, storage, tools) find it annoying to use auto present. Door always opens and sometimes does not recluse. Radio and AC go on with lights etc. Yet the feature is both cool and useful when out and about. Who wants to keep switching back and forth? Solution--create an option to “Enable Auto Present when away from home”. That would eliminate most of the gripes I’ve heard about this feature. Where/how do you make a suggestion to Tesla? Are they responsive?

We have auto present disabled for several reasons.

1. When parked parallel on a busy, narrow street I can just see us walking past the car and the door opening into traffic.
2. The door doesn’t close when you walk away (my understanding) so if you pass by the car too close we would have the extra chore of closing the door
3. If you approach the car from the front the door opens now blocking my ability to walk by the car.

I would like other features enabled like double click to open the door without having the door auto present but since everything is tied together we are stuck disabling it.

I like your idea though. One could disable it based on location.

You need to send the suggestion to Tesla via mytesla. I have sent them multiple requests to make the car stay unlocked inside the garage (using geofence) since late last year. It’s been a year and nothing has been done. Good luck with your feature request.

I saw a workaround solution in the forums where an owner simply programmed an additional driver profile called "EXIT" and in that profile the only thing that they needed to change was the auto present setting, all else remained the same. So when auto present is not needed or wanted they simply change profiles on entry.

If you approach the car and you do not get in, the door will close when you walk away. If you stay close enough to the car after it auto closes, it will not auto present until you move further away. Optionally, you can manually close the door and it will not auto present again until you leave the perimeter. I have only had this fail a few times, but not enough to warrant me turning it off.

If you approach from the front, it will only open partially until you walk by the door. Then it will open all the way. This occurs every time for me and has been demonstrated in youtube videos. So, I am not sure why that is not working for you.

Door always opens and sometimes does not recluse.
My wife has her key in her purse. Every day when she takes her car to work and returns, my X door auto presents. And every time but twice, it didn't reclose. Success to failure ratio for me has been at lease 200 to 2. One of the times it didn't work, I noticed I had a firmware failure and had to hard reset the car.

When I know I am going to work in the garage or only hand wash my car, I do not take the key with me. I use my cell for all car activities.

I just wanted to share my auto-present experiences with it being turned on for almost a year.

Not surprised to see a TMC member know more about the car than the sales and delivery specialists. Thank you!!!! Super helpful!

We have both Passive Entry off and Mirror Autofold off because of tight space in the garage and because I have a hanging bumper between the two cars. Open mirrors would snag on this (so I open after backing out or auto open at speed). Auto present is always a pain even on unlocking as like above I don’t want it opening near the other car.

Having the open enabled only either ‘not at home’ or ‘not in this location’ somewhat like the air suspension would be great and I suspect most of the code is already there!

I wished this worked for me...my local SC is trying to find out what's going on. Mine just open partially and does not open fully after I walk past the door.
Mine did not do this initially. It use to just pop open a little and that was it. After a firmware update (i forget which), my wife and I noticed it popping open like it always has but then opening completely after stepping past the door. If was fairly recently that this change occurred.

Ever since I picked up the car in March it didn't do this and I thought it was normal until I had a loaner with AP1 that I saw the door open fully after walking past it. I have the latest firmware 2017.38 xxxxx. when I was at the SC I had them test it on another AP2 MX with the same firmware as mine and it work perfectly on that one.

Have you tried doing a door recalibration? Our drivers door got stuck one day where it would only pop open a tiny bit but when you tried to open it by hand, it felt like the motor was still engaged and you had to pry it open. We did the recalibration procedure (a couple times) and that resolved the problem. The change in door behavior started soon after that. During that same time though we had a firmware update so I'm not sure which event actually changed the behavior.

What is the recalibration procedure.

Actually love auto present now here as well. It always works. It always has closed when walking away from car after getting out, or by it auto opening and not even getting in.

But, I'd love the feature to have it off or even for the car to wait and unlock (opening mirrors) until I use fob or push the door handle while at home.

I often get to close to it and it unlocks at minimum, and at times close enough to where it opens the door. Not a huge deal but would be a nice setting for when at home in garage.
