Patiently waiting for my own version of this email for the Alpharetta location. Just like many of you I’ve been scheduled and cancelled on twice in September due to lack of VIN assigned. Ordered end of June, midnight obsidian black, awd, eap, etc., but moved since then to GA. Was expected to originally take deliver on 9/6/18 in VA but pushed out due to the move. Schedule for delivery in GA shortly after with eventual cancellations. 30-day pre-approval from my bank just expired so I’ll need to re-apply at a higher rate now. Any advice or action y’all recommend to take? Or just patiently wait for my delivery advisor to contact me? I’ve had emails, phone calls and texts from various Tesla employees telling me they found my exact car but never a VIN or an email like yours Dan.
Keep in mind the email I posted was just a last minute update that things were progressing. I had already received my VIN and new delivery date. I think they just sent it to me because they knew I was gun shy because of the previous 4 cancellations and wanted to ease my mind.

What my bank wanted was a signed MVPA (not the unsigned one that was sitting in my profile on the website for weeks prior to delivery). This can be generated before you actually purchase the car. It contains the VIN, the total cost of the car, and a electronic signature from a Tesla rep. I got one via email the Friday evening before delivery scheduled on Sunday Sept 30 (last day of quarter). This created a huge problem, because my bank (a major US bank) refuses to wire money to Tesla or wire money directly to me.

On Sunday, I actually look delivery of the car with a loan approval and an electronic copy of my loan agreement. I'm not sure if this is official policy that is allowed everywhere.

What you need to do is press Tesla for a signed MVPA prior to delivery. It is possible. However, I did spend hours of the phone over the prior week, only to get the document on Friday evening 2 days before a Sunday delivery. It was surprising to me how it was so difficult to generate that document.

I have to say though, the car was well worth the hassle. Good luck.

So here’s the interesting thing...I DO have a signed MVPA. It has my VIN, it shows a detailed breakdown of my order with costs including destination and taxes. It shows the amount I am financing and the amount I will pay out of pocket. And it is electronically signed by some guy at Tesla with a very official sounding title. But my loan agent says this is not a Sales Contract, it’s a Pro-Forma MVPA with an estimated price sheet. She says the CU will give me a check after I take delivery and produce an actual, signed Sales Contract.

Sounds to me like your bank released funds to you / Tesla when you gave them the same document I have currently. I’m just wondering if my loan agent is mistaken because she has been less professional / helpful than I would have liked to this point. Or perhaps my CU simply has different rules regarding release of funds.

Update on my order (reserved on 12/16, ordered as soon as opened on 6/29/18, AWD, Midnight, 19" wheel):

I received a VIN last Friday evening after approximately 10 phone calls to the delivery team, 2 to the general line, 2 emails and 550 text messages. The VIN suddenly became available in CA although it was no expected by anyone I called prior to my last call. I reached out Monday afternoon and it appears the car has not left CA however the date they expect it at the delivery center nearest me is 10/26. No confirmation though for either the car making it onto a truck or the date. This will place it at the very end of my loan window, if it does make it on 10/26. Based on the other messages, I wont hold my breath until I am sitting it in.

Sorry but that CU agent sounds like they don't know some things. It's a Motor Vehicle Purchase Agreement that lists everything and ends up requiring both parties signatures upon delivery. That's all anyone has been given to the best of my knowledge. I signed mine at delivery along with DMV registration forms and gave them our check. Maybe they are doing it different in Georgia and sure someone from Georgia who's been through it can say for sure but I think she's wrong. It's not estimated costs. Those are the actual numbers. She's probably never dealt with Tesla Purchase Agreements before and use to dealership forms. Tesla isn't a dealership, they are selling direct to you. Curious to see what others say. I've never heard of a bank or lending institution lending you money after the fact. Never bought a car I borrowed money on like that.

DOH! The problem turned out to be mobile access disabled on the car. I thought that was the case yesterday but I couldn't find the setting. Today while I wasn't tunnel visioned with excitement I looked again and found the setting. Now my app sees the car!

I just noticed that the paper that was supposed to have the names of the "Delivery Experience Specialist", "Customer Experience Specialist", "Local Service Center" and "Local Service Number" was completely unfilled out. It also referenced a folder with supporting documents that I will need for my California Rebate. Clearly I need to followup with someone.

I still hadn't heard from the support request I put in via the website but I happen to end up on the phone with call center (a different issue) and while wrapping up I asked about the paperwork. The very helpful person I talked called out to the delivery people and not too long after I had the signed copies of paperwork in my email.

I have an update on my order
Reservation 4/17
Dual Motor placed 7/9
Changed to performance p3d- 8/30

Was told vin is 5YJ3E1EB0JF094XXX and Delivery is set for 11/3 in Pennsylvania

Should I be concerned its a 94k vin and not something higher? I also asked if this was as performance model 3 since inception and I was assured it was.
Mine is an 85xxx VIN and she was damn near perfect at delivery.

Now that I have a minute I can give you a quick run down of my delivery experience. My last three weeks have been pretty well documented here so I won't dwell on it. Understand that nothing I say here changes or lessens the frustration of that experience. However...

First of all, nobody hated the end of quarter rush more than the employees. That is a universal truth everyone at the delivery center recognizes and apologized for. That brings me to my next point. The people at the Roswell/Alpharetta delivery center were universally, to a person, professional, polite, funny and an overall joy to spend time with. From the receptionist, to the techs that were doing the last minute preps, to the delivery personnel. Everybody was pleasantly engaging and asked about my car and congratulated me without being overbearing in any way. Huge shout out to Johnathon who gave me my tour of the car. He is the MAN! Paperwork took all of 5 minutes and then it was off to the car!

Inspection...
They gave me as much time as I wanted to look the car over. My first check was the paint. I forgot a descent flashlight so I wasn't able to check for swirl marks and such as much as I would have wanted to. No major flakes, bubbling, chips or other obvious issues. I figured the minor stuff would be taken care of next week when I get her wrapped and ceramic coated anyway. Now the not so good. Fairly significant panel misalignment where the front bumper meets the front quarter panel. Also a noticeable misalignment with the hood to front quarter panels. Interior was great except for some staining on the seats, both front and back. Jonathon immediately took it around to the techs that were just closing up shop and 15 minutes later brought the car back around and it was perfect!. Panels great, stains gone. Other than those issues the car looked great.

Walkthrough...
Jonathon then paired all of our phones (mine, my wife's, and my oldest son's that was with us) to the car (we had already downloaded the app.) He went through all the pertinent information with me. Charging, settings, controls, navigation, etc. He answered all our questions and we were off!

Drive home...
The initial impression as we drove off the lot was nothing short of awe. Of course I had to get the acceleration question out of the way right off the bat. As a result, my son got to hear my wife drop the F bomb (he's 23 so it's nothing he hasn't heard before) as she immediately shouted "Holy F***, STOP!" After the ensuing laughter subsided we settled into a more mundane ride home. Autopilot calibrated in about 20 miles and we had a chance to experience that a few times. Sufficiently impressed to say the least. Got to experience the emergency safety features first hand as well. We were on a two lane residential street and overtaking a woman on a moped. She drifted toward my lane from the shoulder and the car saw her as another car and immediately applied the brakes and slowed dramatically as it beeped a warning. Very cool. Wife and son were very impressed. Gonna take a while to get used to the media streaming but I am sure it will be fine. If anyone can tell me how to save stations to a favorites list or something similar that is available when you first bring up the media panel I would be greatly appreciative. The sound system is indeed incredible.

Overall impressions...
Me- This thing is everything I had hoped for and dreamed about for the last two years. Period.

My wife- I thought she would like it because it is what I wanted but she isn't really a techy type person. On the contrary she truly loved the car. Wants to try autopilot while driving. Can't wait to get her turn to drive.

My son- He is most definitely a tech nerd! To say he liked the car would be a travesty of understatement. All I heard from him on the way home were giggles as he found another detail he hadn't noticed. He spent the entire ride home filming from the back seat and sending videos to his girlfriend.

Overall...what a car. Once Tesla can figure out the delivery scheduling issues that have been WELL documented here, this car is going to change the world...no doubt about it.

No idea what your credit union is doing but also being in Georgia, I used Credit Union of Georgia and they had me e-sign a few documents for the loan after I sent them the MVPA file from Tesla. Next day I went in and picked up the check for the finances amount. Took it to delivery. Tesla had me physically sign another copy of the same MVPA, along with the registration dicuments. I gave my personal check for my downpayment and we were done.

In AZ they can't sell direct apparently, or at least run it as a dealership, so I had to have all the finances worked out prior. So they have the bank loan and my downpayment. Only thing outstanding is my trade-in (so at least I still have a vehicle to drive, just not the one I really want now). I'm hoping my glitch isn't as bad as others....but everything I've heard lead me to believe they had it together here in the Phoenix valley....but alas, that's turned out not to be the case.

I'm at VIN 94XXX myself with arrival to dealership on the east coast on 11/2 (but can't pick up until later, they can't be ready). Seems like a lot of us are in the same VIN range. I do know my car is built. If you are familiar with the model S or X journey map VINs are assigned prior to production.

I ordered on 7/29 with no reservation so I'm probably way back in the line. My account page says Sep-Nov and my edit link still works.

I called the 888-771-2505 delivery number yesterday to ask about the possibility of finding a car similar to but not my exact config. I still don't get how that works, but based on some success stories here I thought I'd try the "I'm flexible" approach.

A very nice woman named Terri told me that there was zero activity on my account, with no one assigned at all. She put me on hold for less than a minute, then came back and told me she would see if she could get someone assigned to my account. She said to call back on Friday if I don't hear from someone.

10 minutes later she called me back and said that she checked with someone else and there's nothing to do but wait for someone to be assigned, along with a VIN. That's pretty much what I expected so I can't say I was disappointed.

It's hard to keep up with everyone having varying degrees of success, but is it still assumed that Tesla is building cars and just pushing them out to delivery centers, followed by matching them up to orders? My understanding is that is why some people are able to make calls and find cars that aren't exact matches to their original config. Or was that "build 'em, push 'em out, match 'em up later" approach just part of the 3rd quarter push?

I really don't want to bother employees, but I'm wondering if it's worth calling the local delivery centers in my area (Atlanta) to see if any cars are available. I wouldn't think that would be possible, but I'm hearing that is happening. My wife asked on a facebook page for local EV enthusiasts and someone replied that when they picked up their car recently they specifically asked if there were 'extra' cars on the lot available for sale. The reply was that there were indeed cars at the service center that were not assigned to anyone.

I probably should just sit tight and wait, but it seems like a lot of people are getting results by reaching out.

Config: AWD, MSM, black interior, 19" wheels, AEP.

I am seeing a message on my order profile stating that the final payment should either be transferred a check from the fin. Institution should be mailed to Tesla.. Does Tesla take a CU check at the time of delivery or do we need to mail or ACH the payment before we go for the delivery?

Dan, thanks for that detailed write-up. My wife just asked me "Where's our Tesla?" I'm going to tell her about your experience.

Umm, looking at the time you posted: hope you got some rest so you can enjoy the driving today! ;)

I have same range VIN 94XXX with the delivery appointment of 04 Nov at Mt. Kisco. Are you able to track your car by united road website or any other way?

That's pretty normal for me. I've developed some pretty messed up sleep cycles over the last 28 years of teaching. LOL!
