I was asked, in the thread for the original Blackvue 650 Dashcam group buy that I had started about a year ago in the Model S sub forum, if it might be possible to organize another group buy. As it turns out, the answer is yes.

Here is the original thread:
Blackvue 650 (Dashcam) Group Buy for $310, including 32 Gig card and Power Magic Pro

Here is the relevant information, from my post in that thread in which I provide the details of the current offer:

--
I just hung up with James, the rep at Rear View Safety. They are willing to provide pricing for a group buy again!

The current price on their website for the Blackvue 650, with a 32 gig card is $354.99.
DR650GW-2CH | 2 Channel 32GB Dash Camera by Blackvue | Rear View Safety

The price they will offer for the group buy is again $310!

(Note that this time the Powermagic Pro, which we don't really need with our cars anyway, is not included. It actually wasn't supposed to be last time either, but they did include it, due to some miscommunication. See this post for details: Blackvue 650 (Dashcam) Group Buy for $310, including 32 Gig card and Power Magic Pro

You may order by phone, or via their website. If ordering by phone, please call James at (800) 764-1028, ext 725, and reference discount code TESLALOVESRVS. If you order via their website, just make sure to use the discount code.

Rear View Safety will honor this price through at least the end of the week (04/8/2016.) If you try to order after that date, and the discount code has stopped working, try to call James and see if he will still honor the price.

I'll also start a new thread, with a link to this one, so that this offer has greater visibility. I'm glad it's going to work out for those of you who don't yet have the Blackvue 650.

(I just want to say, for the record, that I'm not receiving anything for arranging this again.)

Order away!
---

I thought I would start a new thread here, and also in the appropriate Model S sub forum, to increase visibility. A good number of orders should keep Rear View Safety happy, which will hopefully allow for discount offers like this in the future.

wow... that's great. Thank you for setting up.

Sure. Happy to help out.

Why don't we need the powermagic pro?

There are lots of posts on this by people who probably understand the technical stuff far better than I do. You may want to search for those posts! :) But as I understand it, the main purpose of the Powermagic Pro is to prevent the Blackvue from draining the 12V battery in a standard ICE vehicle once the vehicle is off, and the camera is still recording or possibly recording. That is not a concern of ours because as power is drawn from our 12V batteries, the 12V battery is automatically recharged when low from the traction pack. And just to ease your mind, it is also my understanding that other aspects of the car are drawing power from our 12V batteries all the time anyway, and the additional draw from the Blackvue is trivial. So basically, don't sweat it!

Hi, THANK YOU again. I had an order from costco.com that I cancelled and saved $100
I did look at the prior posts, and looks like no powermagic needed by consensus... confuses me b/c the folks at AL/Eds seem totally upfront and honest, and recommended it. Maybe I can try to explain the unique battery stuff with a Tesla while they do my install.
Order placed online with the code.

Will blackvue still honor warranty if purchased from groupon, according to their website they only honor warranty from authorized dealers. However one can always purchase 3rd party extended warranty like square trade

I'm not sure what you're talking about. This isn't a "groupon." This is simply a group discount I negotiated for the TMC group, being provided by Rear View Safety, a reseller. Unless I am mistaken (and definitely check this out yourself, please) Rear View Safety is an authorized dealer of Blackvue products.

Sorry about that, didn't realize how groupon works

As an owner of 2 S, the older with a Blackvue 550 and the newer with a 650 (...from the group buy...thanks, Andy), I can assure you that you do not need the Power Magic Pro and the added complexity and wiring. Please search these forums for lots of good (...and not so good) tips on how to install. On the S, most of us have always on 12V power under the speaker grille in the headliner for the microphones/voice commands. A bit of routine soldering is needed and you can easily get power here and run the cable under the headliner to the inside rear view mirror. The rear liftgate coax cable pull is a bit more complex. The 'easy out' group runs it through the gap and the cable is visible. It is not a lot of work to fish it through the right hand boot from the C pillar to the liftgate (the left hand boot is not recommended as there are antenna cables there).

Andy has found you all a real deal...don't miss out. And Rear View Safety is a major reseller and stands by their products (I needed a replacement coax cable and they shipped one out without hesitation).

Can someone recommend a SF Bay Area installer that has experience installing the Blackvue dashcam on a MX?

Try Dan at Walnut Creek Customs:

Walnut Creek Customs | The Premier Car Customizers of Northern California

He has lots of Tesla experience and there have been a lot of X in his shop lately since Joe T. is there at OCDetailing. Dan and I have in fact talked about his approach to the X (how to run both the power cable and rear coax given the unusual glued-on channel on the X windshield).

Thanks! I'll look them up as soon as my SC returns my MX. Sigh.

I stopped in and talked to Dan this morning. He has installed Blackvue 650 dual camera units in 4 X so far, and I got to see an X in his shop with one installed. Nice clean install. Because of the massive glass windshield, he mounts the front camera low almost on top of the dash. He runs the 12v power wire behind the dash and through the 'firewall' to the fusebox. He has to get a longer coax cable for the rear camera (the included cable is good for an S, too short for an X), and runs this along the sills to the C pillar, then up and through the center boot from the top frame of the rear of the X to the liftgate itself. No visible cables. All good.
