No offense, but most Americans care less than zero about a trade deal with the UK. Even less so swing voters in Battleground States. They don't see it as having a significant effect on the US economy much less their local economy and their lives.

The only people who really care are the Cosmopolitans on the West Coast and Northeast. Most Cosmopolitans are on the Left and want to punish the UK for leaving what could potentially be the kernel for a secular global government. So no other polity ever considers voting to leave again.

Atlanticist would very much like to a see a US-UK trade deal. There are too few us to make a difference in any State.
Agreed, but Trump doesn't know that. He will absolutely love showing off a trade deal and rubbing it in the EU's face.

Of course Trump knows this because his advisors will tell him every time the subject comes up.

Trump is an innate Atlanticist( because his mother was born in Scotland?) and wants a trade deal. Because it is good for the US economy and to piss off the Left both at home and internationally. He quite enjoys this. But not for electoral reasons.

Boris certainly seems to have gained a stronger hand. UK asking for a bare bones deal has most likely spooked a number of nations who just want to trade free of hassle and tariffs.

Barnier no longer talking about level playing field and fishing rights.

COVID has helped his position. Without COVID, the UK lefty media would have done Barnier's job for him.

If EU can't make equivalent offer to UK as the Canada deal, why wouldn't UK just walk?
Boris is pretending that he can walk away for sure - pretty convincingly as well. However, the UK is clearly not ready to go alone. The EU know that, which gives them a perceived edge. However, the UK are also aware that the EU desperately want a deal as well. It is the greatest game of poker played out on an International scale. Rather than a single big deal, the obvious next step is to start on separate smaller deals and/or temporary a temporary deal. It is in everyones interest.

Its not in australia, india, canada, new zealand, south africa, pakistan etc interests.

And probably not in america's either

And what about HK, Uk will now honour upto about 3million highly sophisicated HK asylum seekers

Nailed it!

Ministers plan laws overriding part of Brexit deal

Ministers are planning new legislation that would override a key part of last year's EU withdrawal agreement.

The move would eliminate a requirement for new Northern Ireland customs arrangements which were intended to prevent the return of checks at the border with the Irish Republic.

Mr Johnson is expected to say later that if no agreement is reached by 15 October, both sides should "move on".

Never a dull moment. As always you would never know that we are 3 months from a potential no deal.
