Based on the information you provided, it had a defect and they fixed it (by replacing the HV battery pack). Anyways, it has a warranty, so I wouldn't be that concerned (personally).

My opinion, the battery might be a refurbished one. That means the battery is older than the car. So probably less range, and might go bad not long after warranty is done.
If you got major discounts and know you will you will get rid of it before battery warranty is done, sure.

Good point to confirm with the contact at Tesla...if it's refurb'd you might consider walking away; however, to replace the refurb'd post-warranty is $15k as well, so you (the OP) could consider that, too.
Just got confirmed from Tesla, they said it is a brand new battery. I think it should be a good deal.
