Unfortunately, we were not able to process your cancellation request at this time. Please call one of our specialists at 1-888-51-TESLA between 7am-6pm PST and we will help resolve this for you.

I called, pressed 1,3, and was told "we cannot process your call at this time, please call back later."

I'm trying once more, then filing a credit card dispute.

wtf?

I tried to call for a different reason and received the same message. Seems like they're busy this morning?

Wow, that's really impatient, filing a dispute within such a short time of one failed attempt at contacting Tesla. A dispute would be justified if Tesla (after actually contacting them) did not resolve your charge and refund. If you are like the other 450,000 people who have waited over 2 years for their model 3, then you surely can wait a few more days to resolve this cancellation of your order and refund. Tesla is not in the business of hanging on to people's money and getting rich that way.
BTW:
You can dispute credit card charges with your issuer for three reasons under the Fair Credit Billing Act:

  • Someone else used your card without permission. Say a fraudster charged a big-screen TV to your card. You could dispute that payment as an unauthorized purchase.
  • There was a billing error. Say the merchant charged you for two TVs, but you bought only one. You could also dispute that charge.
  • You’ve made a good-faith effort to resolve a problem with the merchant. Suppose you bought a TV and discovered that the screen was cracked. If the merchant refused to give you a refund, you’d generally be able to dispute that purchase successfully, if the purchase met certain requirements under the law.

I should have never cancelled the dispute. I was too trusting. I blame myself. I'm too freaking nice.

I emailed on 5/24/2018, with a response back that my reservation was to be canceled.

it's now 06/18/2018 (25 days later) with NO refund. I was told "15 business days". (Today is 17).

I'm calling my CC company and seeing if the dispute can be reopened.

Also calling Tesla on the hour, every hour until I have a refund. You don't F* with my money.

They didn’t lie. They’re just overwhelmed. You don’t really think they’re intentionally trying to steal your deposit, do you? When I requested refund of the extended warranty on my Model S that I sold, it took 10 weeks but I did get the check. I made two follow up calls during that time. Calling every hour, or even twice daily, will do nothing but raise your blood pressure.

Live and learn. No point being nice to Tesla (or any big name company).
