OK, I tackled the driver side door panel today using the template on the inside of the panel. Total time was about a leisurely 2 hours.

There is no air bag behind the door panel. When my passenger side door was replaced after the side-swipe accident, the Tesla certified body shop cut that strap also.

It seems to have something to do with the side air bag and somehow securing the door panel if that air bag is released. The individual doing the seat swap had a certified repair shop install the straps because they were indicated in the procedure he had.
I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the straps (assuming they were referring to the same thing).
Just wondering if anyone has had an actual auto upholstery shop do a "professional" custom door pocket like this where it looked completely OEM...maybe fiberglass the pocket in, etc? I wonder how much something like this would cost.
Lol. No insult intended. What you did took a lot more skill and daring than I have. That's why I wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with having any fabrication or custom interior work done on a prior car, etc...maybe they can direct me to start asking around at an auto upholstery shop, car stereo shop, etc.
