Interesting perspective on the highway rest areas. Here in New England, Tesla has built superchargers at several rest areas (in CT at Milford, Darien, and Greenwich, and in Hookset NH). In Japan Tesla's strategy seems to be mostly in-city stations.
I don't see Tesla having much interest in pushing Japanese sales, certainly not enough interest to start advertising--something is has yet to do in any market.
Hi, Robert, agree that Tesla doesn't have much interest in Japan, but this is relatively developed market for luxury cars and Teslas are selling less than Maserati and Lamborghini right now.
Re highway plazas, yes I know there are rest areas in the U.S. but in Japan they are prime space, with 30K visitors a day one way (one plaza for each direction, so total 60K). The biggest one is two stories, with 25 restaurants. Highways are almost all toll roads, and highway companies get 10% of revenue from tenant rent in plazas.
