Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Oh wow. The Service Center verbally told you that the reduced range is to “reduce the possibility of car fires”. Wow. That’s exactly as Jason believes. Me too. Thanks for sharing

I did NOT get a drop on my 60kwh model S after the 2019.16.1 update. I get 168mi RR at 90% charge I currently have 115k miles on the ODO

Not if the new slower supercharger charging reduces the dentrite growth
  6. FredTMC

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Here’s what’s happening IMO 1). Tesla is limiting the supercharging rate in all cars before 2017. Why? Dentrites can form at high charge rates. 2). Some percentage of these cars likely have cells with Dentrites due to their charging history. So Tesla is limiting the max voltage on these...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

That was just my wild ass guess. 5000. Based on Tesla saying range was clipped on a very small percentage of owners. Actual number of cars that hit range clipped is unknown. Except by Tesla
  8. FredTMC

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Yes. The slower supercharger charging rate isn’t the big issue. It’s for safety so I get it. Oh well. BUT a small percentage of cars had their actual range clipped by 10-30 miles! That has affected people really upset. I can’t blame them. I have an affected friend too. I think...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Thanks. Well actually I believe ALL cars 2016 and older are impacted. I think Tesla has slowed the supercharger charging rates on all these cars. They did this to reduce the chance of a cell developing short circuit inducing Dendrites. Furthermore, some percentage of these cars ALSO had...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Yes. Tesla’s first priority is they don’t want cars to catch fire. Hence the throttling The big question is how many cars are affected? My guess is all cars of certain years. They all use the same cell chemistry Would be nice if it was just SOME percentage/batches of cells produced during...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Oh brother. Of COURSE one cell had an internal short and it propagated from there. Look, if I inflate a bunch of balloons to just below their bursting pressure and then put them out into the hot sun, you can’t accurately predict which balloon will pop first. That’s the situation with the...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Interesting theory about a single “bad” module. I don’t agree though. Not in the slightest. Remember that Tesla is trying to avoid a safety issue by not pushing cells too hard - Via Slower charge rate and capping the max charge voltage. I suspect all the cells in the pack are at risk...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

5,000 and $20k is arbitrary assumption. Could be 50,000 cars or more As far as battery cost, the cells in your pack are FUBAR. There’s no refurbishing them. They have a fire safety issue. They are throw away. Likewise the Electrics are probably outdated too. The battery pack shell can...
  14. FredTMC

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Let’s say there’s 5,000 affected cars. At $20k replacement cost for each pack, that’s $100m of exposure to Tesla. Hence, we’ve got Tesla capping battery packs via firmware.

I’m shocked by this max Rated Range data points of 165 miles. I’m still getting 188 miles at 100% charge. I have a 2013 Model S 60 has ~115K miles. Original battery (208 when new).

I’ll schedule with Dave to do a side by side drive comparison between our two Model 3s. Only spec difference is I have sport wheels. I disappointed to hear that Dave says his cabin is louder than mine Mine is pretty darn quiet at freeway speeds

Thx Dave. I assume same for me. Until I get confirmation from my DS I’m VIN 1978 The VINs 1960-2003 all appear to be blue cars. I’ve heard 1977 and 1989 were spotted already in Fremont. I assume mines in transit to SoCal

What a jerk. This guy MUST know the value this big battery provides. Here's some: Sinks energy from the Wind Farm to be used later. Smoothes out power spikes. Helps prevent blackouts Makes renewables operate more like "base load" than "peaker" plant

The contractor is getting close it seems to completing their work I thought they might first energize the bank of 9 pumps against the garage. Those stalls have parking lines painted and parking "bump stops" installed. It WAS further along than the 12 stalls. Now it seems they'll energize...
