Clarification on Tint

I live in Southern Cal and the OEM roof was fine all summer even with the intense sun we get. The sides are a different matter completely. Ceramic tint at 30% is enough to knock the light down some, knock the heat way down and keep the CHP from hassling me. I had my windshield on my Audi A3 tinted at 30% and while I loved the look, I decided I didn't like the very slight haze and so the M3 doesn't have the windshield tinted.

Doesn't the CHP still hassle you if you have ANY tint on the front side windows? When I use to live there years ago, I had one CHP guy chased me down on I-5 like I was a violent felon and give me a ticket for having 25 on my front sides.

Currently, on my MS Plaid, I run SunTek nano-hybrid carbon 25 in the back and rear windows and 35 on the front sides. I also have 18 windshield tint down to about an inch below the "A" line. The roof looks like limo tint built into the glass and I'll be interested to see how it does in the summer months. Have no idea about its heat and infrared rejection, glare reduction or UV protection. I am hoping it'll handle it all real well. I'd really like to go darker all around, but my eyesight isn't what it use to be and it's tough for me to see out with the real dark stuff.
I've been running my 11-99 plate frame on my past 4 cars so maybe that's doing the trick. even got off w/ a few warnings when I should have gotten tickets. only time I had to remove the front tint was on my 92' Jetta which had limo tint during my college days.

I’m picking up a model 3 soon (2022). I normally tint all my cars with limo tint all the way around. I use a company called mobile tint one (so cal based) they come to my house and do it on the spot. Never had an issue.

I’ve been reading the M3 can be tricky with the roof. Is this a wives tale? Do I need to seek out a Tesla tint specialist? I spoke with the tinter and he said he’s done a bunch of them with no issue.

If I’m ceramic tinting the entire car with limo, what should I do the roof?
Look at Concours Auto Spa. They're vendor on here. They tint tons of Teslas, and did mine recently. There's a 20% December deal right now and they're super competitive with Suntek CIR ceramic tint. They do the back window in 1 piece. Locations in Torrance and Marina Del Rey.

That’s who did mine; frontal ppf and tinted sides, front, and one-piece back glass. I would use them again.

Can't say I understand tinting the roof. It's already tinted and it takes away from having the open roof...especially at 5%
I can see someone doing a relatively clear ceramic tint just for heat rejection. Personally I'm using covers, but if you want to avoid the heat while keeping the view, tint is pretty much the only option.

no reason at all to tint the roof

When I first got my 3 (August 2019), I was quickly dismayed by the sun beating down into my eyes and knew I needed to do something. Tinting the roof (20%) was a no-brainer for me.

I appreciate the tint on the side windows mostly, but there are situations where I have needed to lower the passenger window to be able to see properly using the mirror (backing up in a dimly lit area).
