In early May, widespread flooding and landslides occurred in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, leaving thousands of people without food, water, or electricity. In the following days, NASA teams provided data and imagery to help on-the-ground responders understand the disaster’s impacts and deploy aid.

Building on this response and similar successes, on June 13, NASA announced a new system to support disaster response organizations in the U.S. and around the world.

“When disasters strike, NASA is here to help — at home and around the world,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson. “As challenges from extreme weather grow, so too does the value of NASA’s efforts to provide critical Earth observing data to disaster-response teams on the frontlines. We’ve done so for years. Now, through this system, we expand our capability to help power our U.S. government partners, international partners, and relief organizations across the globe as they take on disasters — and save lives.”

The team behind NASA’s Disaster Response Coordination System gathers science, technology, data, and expertise from across the agency and provides it to emergency managers. The new system will be able to provide up-to-date information on fires, earthquakes, landslides, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and other extreme events.

"The risk from climate-related hazards is increasing, making more people vulnerable to extreme events,” said Karen St. Germain, director of NASA’s Earth Science Division. “This is particularly true for the 10% of the global population living in low-lying coastal regions who are vulnerable to storm surges, waves and tsunamis, and rapid erosion. NASA’s disaster system is designed to deliver trusted, actionable Earth science in ways and means that can be used immediately, to enable effective response to disasters and ultimately help save lives.”

Wish to point out that Nitrous Oxide N2O is a potent GHG 300 times more powerful than Carbon Dioxide CO2.

This is the opinion of Prof. Jacobson about the increase of atmospheric Nitrous Oxide N2O and its dire consequences on the planet.

Nitrous Oxide is no laughing matter!

As we know May 2024 was the warmest May on record, marking a year of record-breaking monthly temperatures in NASA’s record, GISTEMP.

I reported a video by Dr. Kate Calvin, NASA’s Chief Scientist and Senior Climate Advisor, about the consequences that the above mentioned fact has on the Climate Change issue.

I invite all TMC Members to watch the reported video.

Not only NASA but also NOAA confirms that May 2024 was 12th consecutive warmest month on record.

Last month May 2024 marked a full year of record-high global temperatures, with May 2024 ranking as the warmest May on record.

Not only this. ALSO Earth’s ocean temperatures set a record high for the 14th month in a row, according to data and scientists from NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information.

You don't need a hurricane to make a weather disaster in Florida.

Flooding Remains Possible on Fourth Day of Soaking Rains Over South Florida https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/14/...unlocked_article_code=1.zk0.U5XK.SNb3E8poGh5O

A daily record of nine and a half inches of rainfall was set in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday, breaking a previous record of almost five and a half inches that had stood since 1978. In two days, more than a foot of rain fell over Miami Beach, with 13.64 inches being reported. Other 48-hour rain totals have almost doubled that amount, with North Miami unofficially receiving 20 inches and Hallandale and Hollywood each receiving 19 inches since Tuesday. All eclipsed the average rainfall of 10 and a half inches for June in the Miami area.

@mspohr you are right. This is what happened in Florida.

I mean these are the consequences of the Climate Change issue.

South Florida under water. A state of emergency has been declared.

The ESA EarthCARE Satellite has spread its solar wing, and is generating power.

The EarthCARE Satellite has started his Mission!

GO BIG EarthCARE!

Since emissions of Aereosols and their precursor are reducing, the ALBEDO of Clouds is reducing and the Earth Energy Imbalance IS INCREASING. So the effects of AGW (Anthropogenic Global Warming) are WORSENING!

Actually we were experiencing GEOENGINEERING without knowing it. The ESA EarthCARE (Earth Clouds Aereosols and Radiation Explorer) Satellite has been launched just to better study the effects of Aereosols on Clouds.

We have FIRST SOURCE SAYING THAT EL NIÑO IS OVER!

Now, in the following months, we will see if the 0.2°C Anomaly of the Global Temperature Deviation will stabilize or not.

For the time being heatwaves in India and Pakistan are continuing.

As I said in the quoted post, the longest heatwave is still continuing in India in spite of the fact that El Niño is over now.

Heavy rain and heavy hail are always caused by the Climate Change issue. Problem is that the hurricane season will be hard because of the increased Ocean Temperatures.

As I said with Warming due to the Climate Change issue we have increasing precibitable water.

That's the reason why Florida's rainfall shattered historical records.

We are only halfway in June 2024, but this will likely be the 13th record hot month in a row. In fact in the reported graph the line of the June 2024 Temperature Deviation (Brown line) is almost always above the line of the June 2023 Temperature Deviation (Yellow line).

But I disagree with Leon Simons that we are in UNCHARTED TERRITORY. In fact according to Dr. Gavin Schmidt, Director of NASA GISS, we will be in UNCHARTED TERRITORY only if the 0.2°C Anomaly of the Global Temperature Deviation will not stabilize when La Niña (cool flip-side of El Niño) will kick in, which should happen in August--September of this 2024 year.

Actually I gave a better look to the reported graph in the quoted post and I noticed that in June 2024 the Temperature Deviation line (Brown Line) went under the June 2023 Temperature Deviation (Yellow Line) for some days. And we have the coincidence that some days ago El Niño was replaced by ENSO Neutral.

So MAYBE that the Anomaly of the Global Temperature Deviation is stabilizing. We have to wait and see.

As you can see I refer ONLY to the scientific evidences and facts. While I admit that Leon Simons is being alarmist in this case.

Wish to report the definition of Carbon Sequestration

"Carbon Sequestration is the process of capturing and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide.
It is one method of reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere with the goal of reducing global climate change."

So from the point of view of the definition of Carbon Sequestration ANYTHING reducing the amount of Carbon Dioxide CO2 in the atmosphere is CARBON SEQUESTRATION.

All attempts to date at carbon sequestration have been very expensive and pitifully inadequate.
OTOH, if we stop clearing land and let it rewild we can store significant carbon in biomass. It's crucial to stop eating meat so the 70% of farm land that has been cleared to raise animals can be rewilded.

State of catastrophe has been declared in Chile. The capital city Santiago declared a disaster zone after extreme rainfall.
