You cannot charge the battery if the temp is that low. So it has to be plugged in to keep it warm or you need to be comfortable with 40% less range and the inability to charge until it is warmed up. A model S will warm the battery pretty fast with hard driving, like within 15 minutes. Is there any knowledge on possibility of leaving truck in cold temperatures? 200kw capasity should make this possible, and truck use in the north would reguire this. I ordered, but I'll need to sort this out before final desicion.

Would be realtively simple to install an 110v aftermarket external battery warmer. Similar to the block heaters common in the frozen countries.
Tesla should do the same thing A small 12 volt heater for the battery pack Could be a button on the screen to turn it on.
Yes.
Better end result, as it’s variable and can produce up to 7 kW of heat for the battery pack.
Does it do this by default, or do you need to navigate to a supercharger in order to activate it? When navigating to a supercharger, I can hear unusualy sounds from the motors. I have never heard those sounds otherwise, even when regen is mostly disabled due to cold battery.

From the owners manual:
"Temperature limits
Do not expose Model S to ambient temperatures above 140° F (60° C) or below -22° F (-30° C) for more than 24 hours at a time."
So after the first day at -22F, what are you supposed to do if you don't have a garage? Drive south?
Reading this thread makes me thank the Lord above I live in Georgia!
It can already heat itself from the main 400 volt pack anytime it wants.
