Dang, the car is quiet with the HVAC off...

I recently got the 2019.5.16 update, and it changed the way the HVAC controls look. Today was quite mild for March, sunny with temps in the low 50's I park out in the sun at work during the day, so when I got into the car after work to go home, the interior was pleasantly warm, so much so that the HVAC was blowing cool air. I messed with it abit, and turned off the HVAC without realizing it.
A few minutes later I stop at a traffic light, and I'm like, dang this car is quiet! Felt like being in a gasoline car with the engine off. After a minute I realized I was missing the white noise from the HVAC.

Yeah, when I take co-workers for a ride to show them the car, I usually start out in the parking garage with climate and radio off - just so they can sense how quiet the vehicle is when moving. Amazing feeling.

Just like my Leaf, turn the AC off, turn the radio off and even with the windows down, tranquility evades you.

I’m all for turning everything off and rolling in tranquil mode. But if doing so with a new passenger in my car, there will be a 100% chance of a random, and quite loud, fart noise coming on when i use my turn signal

…but back to the gist of the thread: I entirely agree that turning off that loud AC is a pleasant experience. I like to waft along in silence, gently, with the sunroof open (at low speed) and listen to the birds in the trees. But invariably I end up with a VW Golf or BMW 1-series tailgating me until I engageLudicrous Plus and am teleported to another dimension ;-)

Quiet only until you get on the freeway... Model S is the most poorly insulated vehicle when it comes to noise in its price class, sorry to say. A Mercedes, even with its gasoline engine, will be much quieter at speed.

I had a Mercedes GL 3000 Diesel before my Tesla model S 100D and your statement is simply not true.
Tesla is far less noisy then a Mercedes. My ears can testify under oath.

I think my late 2014 is pretty darn quiet. Up to 100 km/h at least. I suppose they plugged some of the door leaks on the newer ones? I wonder if I might be able to retrofit some newer door seals or insulation material if that is the case.

Yes, mine is a 2013 w/ pano roof. The cars w/ solid roofs are quieter.

I purchased my car second hand and if there is one thing I regret is that it has the pano roof. I've never ordered a car with a sunroof or similar, they have always been a weak point for seals and rattles, Tesla is no different.
