UK and Ireland Marketplace - For Sale / Wanted / Free

For Sale: 21" Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyre for Tesla Model S 265/35 Acoustic Treat depth ~5mm A puncture on the other rear tyre led to both tyres having to be replaced with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres. This "Pilot Super Sport" tyre was then redundant. Let me know if you're interested with...

UK and Ireland Marketplace - For Sale / Wanted / Free

For Sale 19" Cyclone Alloys + Nokian Winter Tyres + Tyre Bags Having just traded in my wife's Model S, I am left with the second set of alloy wheels I'd originally purchased with the car. These are 19" 245/45 profile Tesla "Cyclone" alloys in good condition (some minor marks; minor paint...

    Comprehensive USB Bug List

It would be good to know if newer cars - those not affected by the eMMC recall, in particular - have this problem. My suspicion is that this could be related to the eMMC recall, as a way of limiting bandwidth (and hence "wear" of the chip). However, past experience has shown that such is the...

    Comprehensive USB Bug List

Yes, but it would be nice if they played now. And sadly, they don't - at least, not on either of the two Model S cars we own. I've been chasing this up with Tesla for over a year. I contacted them again yesterday - they dug out a massive pile of correspondence and expressed surprise that the...

    Comprehensive USB Bug List

Nope. The system just won't play high-res audio files, no matter how many or how few. And the sad fact is that the system used to work until a software "update" broke this feature.

    High-Resolution USB Audio Broken?

The complete indifference Tesla are showing to this issue - and their dire customer service - speak volumes. As I have noted on this thread, I have repeatedly called Tesla about this problem: basically, a feature that I paid for that they have broken. I have spent hours describing the symptoms...

How many of you had Door handle issues on your Model S?

June 2014 Model S: No door handle issues in ca. 7 years. September 2016 Model S: 2 door handles replaced in ca. 5 years.

    Comprehensive USB Bug List

Just to report that high-res USB playback is STILL BROKEN following the "Christmas" software update to 2020.48.12.1 (at least, on my car). FWIW: I have reported this issue to Tesla multiple times now. I eventually had someone asking me to provide audio samples that would replicate the issue...

    Comprehensive USB Bug List

Very possibly, but this is the latest firmware for my two Teslas (these are both AP1.0 - perhaps that's why?). In any case, I'm now in a state where a Tesla firmware update has removed functionality from my vehicle…

    Comprehensive USB Bug List

Thanks to @f205v I've just found this thread, having reported elsewhere (High-Resolution USB Audio Broken?) that my car with an older firmware version (2020.36.11) had mysteriously lost the ability to play my 24-bit 96- or 192kHz FLAC files. I reported this to Tesla via the "Report a Bug"...

Thanks for the link! So, after 6 years of ownership, what do we get? The ability to play silly games in a parking lot. Great.

    High-Resolution USB Audio Broken?

For reference, this is what I see when trying to play a high-res FLAC file:- IMG_6847 by d.c.palmer posted Nov 19, 2020 at 10:13 AM For those that care, this is the recent Channel Classics recording of Mahler's 3rd symphony with Ivan Fischer conducting the Budapest Festival Orchestra. High-Resolution USB Audio Broken?

Many thanks for confirming my suspicions! Much appreciated… This raises an interesting legal issue: conventional cars generally get worse with time, whereas Tesla claims that - thanks to its over-the-air software updates - its vehicles get better with time. That's until they go and break...

    High-Resolution USB Audio Broken?

good points, but my car (just) missed AP2.0 - it was a P90DL that qualified for the P100D upgrade, but only has AP1.

    High-Resolution USB Audio Broken?

Interesting, Richard - thanks for trying that. I’ve checked and it looks as if my firmware is older than yours: I have 2030.36.11 - so perhaps this was a bug that got fixed? Interesting to hear other people’s experiences - thanks again!
  18. d.c.palmer

    High-Resolution USB Audio Broken?

that might explain the slow reboot, but I don't think it explains the audio issue; it's much more likely that some teenage geek in Fremont didn't think anyone would ever listen to audio files at higher than CD resolution (I mean, we're all supposed to be listening to sub-fi streamed music over...

    High-Resolution USB Audio Broken?

OK, just been out to the car and rebooted the 17" screen. Took forever to restart and I then had to wait for the best part of 10 minutes for the system to scan the USB drive (this is a 256 GB drive that's nearly full). The result? No difference! Trying to play a (previously-played) 24-bit 192...

    High-Resolution USB Audio Broken?

I'm having an issue with high-res audio not playing from a USB stick and I wondered whether it's just me, or if Tesla has gone and broken something (again) in a recent firmware update? Specifically: The problem concerns playback from certain FLAC (lossless) files stored on a memory stick. My...

    Charge for Warranty Claim?!

This matches the wording in my own warranty agreement, which I finally located in my car's glovebox (where else?). I think the important point - at least in my case - is the reference to "normal noises and vibrations". My contention is that an irritating rattling noise from the dashboard is not...
  23. d.c.palmer

    Charge for Warranty Claim?!

That may be true now, but Tesla cannot - repeat, Cannot - retrospectively change their warranty for an existing owner. As I quoted from their warranty agreement above (and reproduce again, in case this helps other members):- "No person or entity, including, but not limited to, a Tesla employee...

    Charge for Warranty Claim?!

That's good - and bad - cragger. Good that you weren't charged, but bad that they should feel the need to threaten you with the prospect of charges. It shows a profound disrespect for customers and all adds to a growing sense of disillusion with the brand. Having spent over £200K on Tesla...

    Charge for Warranty Claim?!

Oh, and my wife had a Nissan Leaf - they never charged provisional diagnostic fees.
  27. d.c.palmer

    Charge for Warranty Claim?!

I'm not sure anyone knew what their warranty policy was four years ago - I certainly didn't read the fine print. The thing is, if things are changed "on the hoof" so to speak, it catches customers unawares, and that's alarming. I'm not a lawyer, but I suspect a lawyer might argue that one has a...

    Charge for Warranty Claim?!

Interesting - but can they do this retrospectively? I bought this vehicle nearly 4 years ago. Surely they can't change my warranty policy without my agreement?
  29. d.c.palmer

    Charge for Warranty Claim?!

My P100D is nearing the end of its four-year warranty, so I compiled a list of ongoing issues and booked a service appointment. I duly received a text acknowledging the booking and stating that there would be a charge of £72.50 + VAT (that's approx. US $109) to "diagnose" each "noise". Anyone...

    TPMS reset on V10

I would second HankLloydWright here. The fact is that many of us "early adopters" with the old (2012-2014) Baolong sensors were able to have these replaced - and reset - by pressing the TPMS button. We didn't need to get Tesla to come and do this for us; neither did we need to clone anything...

    TPMS reset on V10

Thanks, Shawn. Yes, it the 2014 car I'm talking about. As I noted earlier, last year I replaced one of the Baolong sensors, because its battery had failed. I was able to get the car to recognise the new sensor - or, at least, to stop complaining about the sensor - by using the TPMS reset button...

    TPMS reset on V10

I realise that! This is the problem. There USED to be a button - and despite what one individual on this forum seems to be claiming, it DID used to work! Its removal is a major problem.

    TPMS reset on V10

How then was I able to replace one sensor last year - and then press the TPMS reset button AND get the car to recognise the new sensor? (This was the Chinese sensor - not the new-fangled Continental one.)
  34. d.c.palmer

    TPMS reset on V10

Regardless of whether or not 2012-2014 Model S cars can work with the newer sensors, I think it's unreasonable to expect us to have to go to the expense to replace existing - and working - sensors with a whole batch of "Continental" ones. The fact is this:- Last year we were able to replace...

    Location unveiled for EU Gigafactory

I'm surprised they didn't decide to expand the existing, Tilburg plant - which would seem to be a more sensible choice. Some in the media have suggested that Elon wants to shake up the existing German car industry by throwing down the gauntlet on their own doorstep. However, compared to the...

    TPMS reset on V10

That's really poor service! We need to demand better (but Tesla service these days is so lousy, that isn't going to be easy). Maybe if enough users file bug reports against v.10, maybe we'll get our reset button back again?

    Has anyone returned their Tesla?

As I've said before: use heated seats, turn down the AC - and preheat your car on cold mornings.
  39. d.c.palmer

    Has anyone returned their Tesla?

Another piece of advice that hasn't been mentioned: - Preheat your car! Assuming you have a charger at home (if not, why not?) just use the app to pre-heat - and pre-condition - your car. In cold weather it's possible to drive like a saint, with no heating, no heated seat, no heated steering...

    Location unveiled for EU Gigafactory

I entirely accept the manufacturing arguments re. Brexit/Germany - but the real pity is that we could still have had a Tesla design centre here in the UK. There is still a high level of expertise in automotive engineering in the Midlands and Oxfordshire - look at all the F1 and Formula-E teams...

Tesla Service Getting Worse - Need a senior contact for UK please

Thanks for the background - I do appreciate this (I'm not a member of that group as I refuse to join Facebook). However, I feel that we shouldn't encourage Tesla to focus its customer relations through a single motor club (which was one of the mistakes I think Georg Ell made, when he was running...

Tesla Service Getting Worse - Need a senior contact for UK please

Yes, but given the negative slant in the media already, I don't think it would do much to help our cause. I would prefer to work with Tesla, rather than against them. As others have (quite rightly) pointed out, most of the Tesla staff are really helpful and enthusiastic - it's just that they're...

Insurance for M3 [Trying to start a mega thread]

We don't actually cancel - we just don't have auto-renew enabled. We create a new policy, with a start date timed to ensure seamless coverage from the old policy. Invariably this is done online - it seems that all the major companies are playing the same game: trying to attract "new" customers...

Insurance for M3 [Trying to start a mega thread]

Insurance policies wax and wane when it comes to electric cars. Back in 2014 when we were looking for insurance for our first Model S, Admiral was quoting really low rates - and getting quite a lot of support. Fast forward one year, and their insurance rates sky rocketed (doubling in some cases)...

New breed of Model 3 drivers out there.

I wave at other Model S owners - we're the ones that kept the company alive whilst it was working to build the Model X, Model 3 and Model Y. I generally get a wave back, or a flash of the headlights: we're a friendly bunch, especially us old timers (I was Signature No. 19 - so my wife's Tesla...

Tesla Service Getting Worse - Need a senior contact for UK please

It would be helpful if we could find a way to escalate these issues within the higher echelons of Tesla management. In the old days, Tesla UK was run by Georg Ell - who was relatively new to the scene, but enthusiastic and energetic. Whilst not perfect, things got done - and if things failed...

    TPMS reset on V10

I've had this twice - in two different cars (June 2014 P85; September 2016 P100D). As others have reported, these error messages always appear when one tries to reset the Wheel Configuration. On both occasions, trying to reset the 17" screen didn't help. Customer Services were able to push a...

Tesla Service Getting Worse - Need a senior contact for UK please

Thanks for the replies. It's heartbreaking really, that the company we so want to succeed, seems to be doing its best to destroy itself from within. As one of the very-first Tesla UK customers ("Signature" reservation holder) I've been a keen supporter of the company for the past 6 years or so...
