At New Model S Order Website A link was posted to a Model S configuration page I had not seen before, tesla.com/build/models

I do not know how member @Az_Rael found that page, but kudos to him!

The page will likely try to redirect you to the familiar Model S config page, but if you keep stopping it and re-entering that URL it should stay there.

So I decided to try the same URL but with an X on the end instead of an S. And it works. Sam redirect behvior though. esla.com/build/modelx

It looks like Tesla may be introducing a new configuration page design.

And note that on that new X configuration page, at the lower left is a link to the existing "custom" configuration page with a note that choosing a custom configuration "May extend delivery time".

So my guess is that the new configuration page will be promoted as a way to decrease delivery time after ordering. Meaning perhaps that Tesla will build batches of pre-configured cars and make those available for quick delivery, or do a custom config and wait a bit longer.

    Let the complaining begin... ;)

For whatever reason it seems to be case sensitive? After some tinkering this worked for me: Build a Model X | Tesla

    Your Welcome

Yes that link works but it continues to redirect to the existing config page.

I suspect the new config pages will be live soon.

@ecarfan invited complaints so here is one:

That configurator doesn't exactly ooze premium experience to me. What I fear is that this is leading to less and less customization all the time, even though at this stage Custom is still there.

So glad not to be ordering a Tesla anytime soon. Too stressful. :)

    Grey 21" wheels... urgh...
