Over a year ago our client Doug came to us with a Model S, a vision and most importantly a desire to stand out. The release of the Model S represented a significant shift in automotive culture. It showed the world once and for all that the electric car is the way of the future, that they did not have to be boring boxy compacts and that they could give the best ICE cars a run for their money.

Unfortunately, with all its incredible advances, Tesla did fall short in one category. Diversity. With all the progress within the automotive industry over the last century or so, the Tesla Model S is somewhat reminiscent of the Ford Model T, which you could have in any color, as long as it was black. Today you can have any Tesla, as long as it looks the same.

Sure, you can purchase a new Facelift version Tesla but one major gripe is that by and large there is no way to differentiate a base model Tesla from those at the top of the range, other than the small, inconspicuous badge on the lower right side of the trunk. Fine for some, but there are those who want to stand out and with an abundance of Teslas on the road in southern California that task is becoming increasingly difficult, after all, a clever vanity plate will only get you so far. That’s where we come in.

    The Before:

Doug came to us wanting the full Unplugged treatment and that’s exactly what he received. Going through several iterations his S has received a host of upgrades inside and out. What started as your average, albeit impressive P85D, would soon be transformed into a full UP85D complete with full aero kit, custom interior and much more.

Perhaps the most obvious changes can be seen on the exterior. Doug’s P85D was upgraded with our Complete Front Fascia System, Side Skirt Set, Rear Spoiler and Under Diffuser and Trunk Spoiler. The Complete Front Fascia system offered in impact resistant urethane gives the front end a more aggressive appearance, befitting of the 600+ HP lurking under the surface. As a subtle touch the nose cone has been replaced with a feather weight dry carbon fiber piece handmade in our Los Angeles workshop. Doug opted to go with the impact resistant sides and rear as well to round out the look. As well as a light weight dry carbon spoiler at the back.

For a more menacing look Doug went with our full chrome delete, blacking out all the factory chrome pieces as well as tinting the windows.

But after the dark must come the light and Doug’s S is no exception. His headlights were upgraded to a set of Unplugged Headlights, featuring a much brighter, laser etched beam and of course, a blacked out housing.

No exterior is complete without a set of new shoes and performance rubber to match. In this case, Power is delivered to the ground through a set of our exclusive UP-01 BBS wheels. The UP-01s are Tesla specific. Made to fit without modification, the wheels are a 21” staggered set up, TUV SUD approved and reliably rated to withstand over 2100 lbs per wheel. A necessary requirement for the 4000+ lbs of a Model S. The wheels also reduces rotational mass with a design that pushes the majority of that mass to the center of the wheel. Titanium hardware and integrated removable rim protectors finish off the wheels bulletproof design. Traction is acquired via a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Finally the exterior received an extra layer of protection thanks to a full paint correction job and ceramic coating, giving it an ultra-glossy appearance and removing the need for a wax or buff for several years.

Looks are great but you should feel at home every time you step into your vehicle. For an added level of comfort Unplugged completed a full bespoke interior using premium materials throughout the cabin.

Soft alcantara can be found everywhere, from the seats to the dash and door panels. Even the kick plates and trunk hatch have been wrapped in Alcantara.

The seats and door panels also received a custom touch with plush leather, perforated Alcantara and diamond stitching. The steering wheel was rewrapped in Alcantara and high gloss carbon fiber. No piece was left untouched, even the seat backs were upgraded with a set of our dry carbon units and the floormats were replaced with our exclusive mats made using Rolls Royce carpeting and Ferrari leather.

What started out as a standard Model S is now undoubtedly one of the most custom Teslas on the road. Now reworked using materials befitting the vehicles price tag and an appearance justified by the exorbitant horsepower numbers, this Unplugged UP85Dis ready to take to the streets and put to rest any assumptions that all Telas are made equal. Whatever your opinion. One thing’s for certain. This aint your mom’s Model S.
