The recap seems to have missed this part:

People here rarely realize just how pervasive wechat is in China, very glad to see Musk recognizes this and holds it up as a model to emulate.

Yeah, he's said WeChat is the model he wants for Twitter, a few times in fact.

If he could do that, it would 20X his investment, and provide a TON of value to the platform.

So, “basically living on” a social media app is a good thing?
Great.... so maybe Americans can increase their current average of seven hours and 50 minutes a day online with digital media each day to encompass the handful of remaining waking minutes.
With corresponding effects on mental health, weight, longevity, attention span etc.
And by bumping Twitter to a billion users we can increase the reach of Chinese and Russian disinformation experts.

Yeah, the "living on social media" goal is awful-- but apart from that part of why Wechat is so big is the government censors and firewalls nearly any viable alternative platform.

Over a billion people use it because they don't have an option to use something else.

Twitter on the other hand has to actually compete in a "free" market, and as such has a tiny fraction of the addressable userbase using it.

This whole twitter garbage is looking more and more like Elons in-love-with-a-literal-pigeon moment.

Living on WeChat is not so much about time and toxic social media. More about integrated payments, shopping & communicating. You don't need to go from Instagram to WhatsApp to Apple wallet to Uber to Amazon etc. like we all need to. It's all in one place.
As a species, we do not need more time online. no matter how cushy and integrated.
Elon is big on keeping the species alive, but knows or cares little about quality of life. (Back to work, slaves! In person because I say so!). Time online is, on net, corrosive to the species. And frankly living on Mars? Worse than a prison sentence. Huge joke.
Increasing the birth rate with a commensurate need for more energy, consumption, mined resources, pollution etc... How is that going to help fix climate change, and preserve the other forms of life on earth that we rely on?
But OK, let’s integrate half our lives into Twitter.

I wonder what the average screen time is for TMC members on this site? ;)

Maybe he will integrate PayPal with Twitter!
Dogecoin

Ship has sailed. Integrated approach means less time online. Elon will very likely want to get people meeting irl (aided by Twitter) as it plays into RT strengths. One example could be suggesting all group members meet at an equidistant bar and coordinates the RTs.
