Forgive me if this is a frequently asked question, but I’ve just come across the ev.energy app.

Is it any good in the sense of optimising the charge based on your tariff?

Is it reliable?

Any tips for getting the best out of it?

Or, you could just charge overnight in the cheap period. For most tariffs this doesn't change.

The only time you need an app to help with that is for something like octopus agile where the cost varies all the time, and even with that if you pick a cheap window any optimisation is going to save you pennies.

If you start charging around 2am you'll be inside the cheapest rates (seems to bottom out around 4am). Sure you can micromanage it - some people have written things that automatically find the cheapest start times each day, for example - but it's not really necessary unless you're really trying to save every last penny.
