Is it cloudy every morning in Fremont?? What happened to "sunny" California?

Not every morning, but the Bay Area is frequently overcast in the mornings. As a lifelong California resident, I can tell you the weather isn't the same everywhere in this state.

Cloudy is actually better for these pictures...if it were sunny the cars would be backlit in some of the shots, ergo harder to count, etc.

Bruce.

Is it cloudy every morning in Fremont?? What happened to "sunny" California? Possibly another reason I wouldn't ever move there.

It's called the June gloom. The ocean current off the coast of California is cold creating fog banks/low cloud that roll in when the land cools overnight and rolls out again as the day heats the ground. So almost every day starts like this but it is gone by 10am. This lasts until July when the sunshine is from dawn to dusk. There is virtually no measurable rainfall in California from SF south from June to September.

"The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco".

Growing up in Los Angeles May-June was usually overcast and gloomy until afternoon.

Most of North America west of the Rockies is a Mediterranean climate. There is a clear wet and dry season. Further north it is a "warm summer" Med climate and further south a "hot summer Med climate. The hotter summer areas also tend to have longer summers too.

During the dry season a persistent high pressure forms off the coast and sits there all summer. It builds first off California and expands north. As it's building, the coastal and near coastal areas can get that morning cloudiness that both the Bay Area and Los Angeles gets. By this time of year the San Joaquin Valley is already getting sunny, hot, and dry, though not up to full summer temps yet. Places like Morro Bay and San Francisco are famous for their summer fog because of the hot temperatures inland that trap the ocean air right up against the coast.

I lived in Morro Bay in college and drove 14 miles into San Luis Obsipo which is a little inland. It was frequently gloomy in MB with a high of around 65F when it was 90F and sunny in SLO. The days I predicted the weather wrong could be uncomfortable. Of course there are weather apps now. This was pre-internet.

California also has a plethora of micro-climates. Sunset magazine defines 24 climate zones in the west and the USDA defines 20. California has 20 of the Sunset zones and 16 of the USDA zones.

At 2 pm on May 22, 2018 I recorded a video drive by of Tesla Factory's new car buffer and carrier loading area. Here's my video slowed-down 4x to make it easier to count the cars and carriers:

Note this is recorded about 6 hours after augkuo's morning photos.

Enjoy your morning parking lot porn!

Exuberantly Long TSLA since 8/4/2011 @ $25.10! Most recent add-on was 4/2/2018 @ $245. :)

PS. On Sunday around 5 pm I was driving southbound on I-880 when I saw 5 carriers x 9 cars = 45 vehicles heading northbound within about 15 minutes! I was really stoked!! I need to add a dash cam to my X to capture stuff like this...

Great video.

Just noticed they replaced unsightly sheets of plastics in the drainage channel with piles of rock. Probably happened few months ago. Duuuuh!

No I think it was one day last week for the rock. like the gorilla in the room video, you were to distracted by counting all of the 3's and loaders. One of the shots the guys were placing the stone, with piles in the parking lot. I hope they do more landscaping than this. The sidewalks were done a while ago.
