US to join summit on global green recovery from Covid-19 crisis

The US is to join with other major powers including China, India and the EU in formulating plans for a global green recovery from the coronavirus crisis, in the only major international summit on the climate emergency this year.

The idea of a green recovery to prevent a dangerous rebound in greenhouse gas emissions to above pre-Covid-19 levels has been gathering steam, but few governments have yet committed to plans.

Then why are crime rates higher in poor areas than rich if it's just a character issue and not financial? Reality doesn't support your premise.

You are referring to the overcrowded inner-cities where the highest % of people with Guaranteed Incomes live. In rural poor areas crime is not that high. Cheating on your taxes, bribing gov't officials, and embezzlement are not much of an issue in poor areas.

You steal a VCR and go to jail, you steal the patents for the VCRs, and you pay a settlement. If rich crooks had to break into houses to steal, they would. A crook is always going to take the easiest path.

National Climate Bank amendment added to House’s pro-solar infrastructure bill

Congress has authorized more than $3 trillion in coronavirus relief, but none of this money has been for job creation. Supported by SEIA, a national climate bank can create millions of jobs, especially in low and medium-income communities.

Wrong. Low interest, partially forgivable loans, are available to small businesses (the #1 employer) to retain staff under the Covid-relief tax spending. There is much abuse in the program however.

However, the Covid mandates pushed work-at-home so much, a significant number of jobs are lost forever. If you can work from from home, you can be replaced by an international employee pool, not just regional.

There is a difference between giving money to businesses to retain jobs (widely abused) and actually creating new jobs.

City Of Sydney Goes 100% Renewable

"As of July 1, Sydney, the largest city in Australia, will power all its operations — street lights, sports facilities, buildings, and the historic Town Hall — with 100% renewable energy from local sources. The clean energy transition, made possible by a power purchase agreement put together by Flow Power, is worth $60 million and is projected to save the city more than a half million dollars on its electricity bills every year for the next 10 years."

Only bold state intervention will save us from a future owned by corporate giants

Only bold state intervention will save us from a future owned by corporate giants | Joe Guinan and Martin O'Neill

A democratic society can’t flourish under conditions of unrestrained inequality, and will be even more imperilled in an economy where wealth and power are further concentrated. The only alternative to an unjust recovery is to use state power to protect smaller firms and create a more democratic economy where ownership and economic rewards are more widely shared.

History can be our guide here. A similar move lay at the heart of the US response to the economic crisis of the 1930s. Under Franklin D Roosevelt, the Reconstruction Finance Corporation, a state holding company, was permitted to acquire failing businesses until they could be relaunched during the recovery from the Great Depression. One of the engines of the New Deal, the RFC became not only the biggest bank in the US, but also the single largest investor in the country.

From dusted-off bikes to electric dreams: UK green economy booms on back of Covid-19

From dusted-off bikes to electric dreams: UK green economy booms on back of Covid-19

I think it’s really true that there are few problems in society today that can’t be made better by getting people walking and cycling more.”

Butternut Bikes is one of countless British businesses poised to profit from a green economic boom in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. While the government faces growing pressure to unveil a post-pandemic economic stimulus package that is climate friendly, Britain’s economic green shoots are already in evidence.

PwC includes low-carbon transport in its five-pillar plan to “build back better”, alongside major stimulus plans to accelerate low-carbon electricity generation, cut emissions from heavy industry and help build a green workforce with the skills to carry out the plans.

“One of the unintended consequences of the coronavirus crisis is the opportunity for businesses to think about the future. If a company has to rebuild itself, it makes sense to reconfigure how it works to be more sustainable,” Jennings says.

Biden unveils $700bn 'buy American' proposal to revive US industry

Biden unveils $700bn 'buy American' proposal to revive US industry

Biden’s economic recovery plan draws from his primary opponents, most of whom embraced sweeping plans such as Medicare for All and the Green New Deal. It includes a version of a plan first proposed by Warren, a contender to be Biden’s running mate, to leverage the federal procurement process to buy US-made products and create jobs.

Biden argued that Trump’s handling of the world’s largest economy – from the imposition of tariffs to trade negotiations with China and the 2017 tax cuts – have hurt ordinary American workers and benefited multinationals and Wall Street. To pay for his spending plans, Biden has proposed reversing tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.

So Biden's plan is to increase the cost of manufacturing in the US through taxes, regulations and higher wages. Since the cost of producing products in the US will dramatically increase with his plan how will he keep cheaper products from coming in from those other countries? Seems to me the only way is through tariffs which he railed against when Trump imposed them to help bring manufacturing jobs back to the US.

Covid-19 has revealed a pre-existing pandemic of poverty that benefits the rich

Covid-19 has revealed a pre-existing pandemic of poverty that benefits the rich

As I show in my final report as UN special rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, almost all of these rosy accounts rely on one measure – the World Bank’s $1.90 (£1.50) a day international poverty line – which is widely misunderstood, flawed and yields a deceptively positive picture. It has generated an undue sense of satisfaction and a dangerous complacency with the status quo.

Presenting the agenda of the wealthy as the best road to poverty alleviation has entirely upended the social contract and redefined the public good as helping the rich get richer

Second, the progress narrative has been used to drown out the appalling results so often brought about by this perversion of pro-growth policies. Many of the countries that have achieved great growth in GDP have also experienced exploding inequality, rising hunger, unaffordable health and housing costs, persistent racial wealth gaps, the proliferation of jobs that don’t pay a living wage, the dismantling of social safety nets and ecological devastation. These phenomena, directly related to neoliberal policies, are unaccounted for in the tale of heroic gains against poverty.

It's hilarious that socialists buy $100,000 cars in America and love the Chinese government.
De Niro also claims to be a socialist, and he just took out $28 million in Covid inventives because his income has dropped to $7.5 million a year.

Like all socialists in America, they believe their words will absolve them of all their past evil deeds. But none actually want socialism for THEMSELVES, they only want it for others.

It seems rather clear that ~EVERYONE wants socialism... just to different levels of honesty and hypocrisy;

Vocal Opponents Of Federal Spending Took PPP Loans, Including Ayn Rand Institute, Grover Norquist Group

And by no definition does 'socialism' mean 'fiscal egalitarianism'; We've had some form of socialism since ~forever. People like De Niro just want to employ reason and logic to expand it to other areas where's it's completely insane and sociopathic to not have socialism like healthcare and education.

Robert De Niro alone took $28 million in Covid funds. How does that compare?
Planned Parenthood illegally filed for $80 million, and Harvard with an endowment of $40,000 million took Covid funds.

Congress always gives tax money to the rich. And always have.

We have free healthcare for all if you can't afford it in California. Only people who can afford it or have insurance must pay.

Even the lower economic class is migrating to private schools. The public ones are useless.

The simplest way to close the racial wealth gap? Direct cash payments

The simplest way to close the racial wealth gap? Direct cash payments | Dedrick Asante-Muhammad

Today, African Americans collectively own just 4% of the nation’s total wealth. For the median Black family, that comes out to just 2% of what the median white family owns. For African Americans to own a share of the wealth proportionate to their 13% of the population, they would require another $10tn.

Never mind the mule.
One idea? A 20-year injection of $20,000 annually to every African American who can identify an enslaved ancestor in the United States. For those under the age of 25, their $20,000 a year could be placed in an individual development account.

As Martin Luther King noted during his 1964 Nobel peace prize address: “There is nothing new about poverty. What is new, however, is that we have the resources to get rid of it.” That’s even truer now in the 21st century, but the question now is the same as it was then: does our nation have the will to do it?
