Just a note but even with shade and noggle my kids tell me it gets too hot often, this is the first summer of using the rear facing seats (same location your dog would be) and I will need to build in a couple 120mm fans back there as soon as I can. Only short trips as it is now.

My cousin has an S with rear seats at he used something like this:

He taped it all around his rear-facing/center console vents and ran it over the seat. Works very well, but pretty much eliminates the center bench seat and is just kind ungainly, but works. He said the normal rear seats are fine in term of cooling even with their vents canibalized.

In my case with 3 kids in carseats in the bench as well as the 2 in the rear jump seats that wont work out so I have to be more creative and a bit surgical with my end solution.
