Yes, as far as the revenue from that charging is concerned. However, as discussed earlier in the thread, a fourth player in this drama is the IRS who has rules about the ITC and a requirement to charge from solar in order to qualify for ITC.. It is not a simple issue. To add further complexity there may be SGIP grant rules for some.

Good point, I forgot that unless the ESS is 75% charged from the renewable resource, then you cannot claim the ITC on the ESS.

That is only true for commercial. It is pro-rated between 75% and 100%. Residential batteries must be 100% charged from on-site renewable generation to qualify for the solar ITC.

I'm getting solar plus 2 referral PWs (zero cost, so no ITC claimed on the batteries).

Are you saying that if I charge the batteries from the grid, that I won't be eligible for the ITC for the solar install?

No, just the battery portion which you didn’t pay for anyways so hopefully you don’t try to claim those.

But I can see some difficulties arising getting the installer to configure your system for grid charging since it’s not what they usually do.

Also, CT just passed this new program to provide incentives to residential (and commercial) battery systems to feed back into the grid from 3pm to 8pm and other peak demand events. They're paying $200/kWh. I'm hoping with the advent of this program, Tesla will enable grid charging for CT owners during off-peak hours.

Sounds like an interesting program. Just as a clarification for those who don’t click, it’s $200/kWh of installed battery capacity, with a limit for residential installs of $7,500 (so you’d hit the max rebate between 2-3 PWs).
