On my long-ish drive today I think I noticed that all VW drivers were sitting a little lower! Out of favour boys/girls in the family now...

Diesel cars in the US have mostly appealed to frequent long distance and uber miles per year car owners.
Current or even horizon EVs are not a practical consideration, even at ICE level prices.
The EU is very different, and that is the turf where diesel survival will play out.
There it is all about protecting local industry (mostly German,) and diesel subsidy on one side, air pollution in the big cities on the other. So far, the air pollution side is losing and the fight is not even close.

Volkswagen Faces South Korea Sales Ban
VW and Audi are pretty much done in Korea (most of the cars they sold were diesels)
The head of VW/Audi Korea just got summoned by the prosecution:
(LEAD) Chief of Audi Volkswagen Korea summoned over emissions scandal
Right now they are banned from selling cars (the 4 or 5th largest market for Audi worldwide) and it doesn't look like this ban will be lifted anytime soon.
