Akikiki: for upholstery type work, I highly recommend Kings Upholstry in Kalihi Kai. 836-0629. 2875 Ualena Street, bay 102. They redid the interior ceiling of our 2002 dodge van. Did it in a day. Excellent job, quite a nice price, and a very good group of guys to work with. I should think they could handle floor mats with no problem at all.

And yes, I would be interested in black mats: trunk and trunk.

Jeffdhood- I was rather surprised when I saw my grey interior and I realized I'd have to put extra effort into keeping it clean. It's quite an attractive color of leather, though. Do you have any strategies devised for keeping the grey interior looking clean long term? The light color should help keep the seats in these tropical cars of our cool.

Gosh, I never gave it any thought. I guess for starters I should share that I bought this car for my wife. It's replacing a Mercedes that has almost identical interior. It's five years old and looks almost new. I would call her a neat freak. Ergo, keeping her car clean has never been an issue. As for me, I'm off the farm and all my vehicles get treated like tractors.

Hmmm...Am wondering how many female Tesla owners/drivers there are out there...so far, I count spleen's mom, jeffdhood's wife and me...anyone else out there?

All, I am trying to find someone that will make mats from carpet for the trunk & frunk.
I am thinking cut to match the floor of each and most likely have TELSA and/or Model S embroidered in RED on the mat.
I am trying to find a local auto or marine upholstery shop to do it. I've been talking to Matco behind Cutter Ford about this too.
I don't know pricing, but if we haggle, it might bring the price per down if there's others that are interested. This is not asking you to commit yet, but is anyone else interested? And if so, what colors? I am going with Black.

I am also interested in a black trunk mat.

Btw, so far I've found the pano roof to be fine as it is. I was considering tinting it but now I'm not so sure. Nice to see the sky and I don't really feel any additional heat.

Paperwork before car is shipped?

Solar, He posted a thread on TM today about 8:15. His car is here and he's rightly upset because of some info he got about it. I doubt the information is accurate though. I asked him to come over to our thread and let us share some details with him. I've been watching for him to show up.

Back to the question you asked nanimac. Go back to comment #522 about 12 April, there's some details there about what you should expect to get from TM. When it arrives, quickly read, check all over where you need to sign and get it back out the same day going back FedEx to TM. The return FedEx enevlope will be included. You can turn it around in the same week, and it will help your paperwork considerably. Really important.

Akikiki: thanks again. I remember ddruz's master list. What I am confused about is whether these or some other papers are suppose to arrive before the car arrives. I reached Lee through our old work email addresses. He stated that he signed some papers before he sent in his money. If he is referring to the final MVPA, that makes sense. Now if there was something else that I was supposed to sign and return to Tesla (temporary Calif. registration?), then I haven't received anything physically transmitted to sign. If I understood Nanimac correctly, I thought that she said something similar about signing and returning papers before her car gets shipped. I am a little concerned because I received an email from logistics specialist Robert Aguirre asking me to list my top 3 appointment times to pick up the car between 6/13 and 6/17. Now if there is nothing that needs to be signed and returned to Tesla in advance of picking up the car other than the MVPA, then I can relax and go to sleep (wow, midnight already?).

contact Mac re: paperwork. You should've received a packet of stuff a couple of days after you paid for the car. I haven't confirmed if the temp Cali reg and out of state delivery docs need to be signed first, but sounds like your car is already on the boat so probably not an issue.

Solar, Forgive my exact lack of recall on what I got in the first FedEx package and then a second FedEx then a third email from Barry that was my Bill of Lading. But there were two from TM. My paper trail is not an exact model, because my Tessie was an orphan. We did my deal completely between a Saturday afternoon and a Sunday morning, Easter weekend. This was the end of the 1Q '13 and my car was one of the last completed sales in that quarter and TM took steps to make sure everything completed on 31 Mar so it could be counted in 1Q. I had no objections.

Once we agree on details, like swapping 21's to 19's and, adding second charger and of course my three Tesla caps, they sent me an updated MVPA. I signed it. We were able to do a fund transfer from my bank to their bank. They emailed me a Cali Reg that I printed. I took it to the SC and Barry was finishing the car. I drove away at 2 p.m.

On Tueday 2 April just barely two days later the formal MVPA, some more papers and a FedEx return package was home when I got here. I looked it over 10 times (it seems) and found every place I was supposed to sign. I shoved everything in TM's addressed package and took it right back to FedEx two miles from home. THAT made a difference. I don't know how they did it, but on Friday, I had another package and it had everything except the Matson Bill of Lading. I had read dsmith's experience on what he went through, so starting on Sunday the 31st of Mar, I was busy annoying the heck out of Robert asking questions and reading dsmith's list of documents to Robert. When the second package arrived it had what dsmith said we needed, again, except the Matson Bill of Lading. Remember this car had been here a while, it was understandable that early on, no one knew how important the original Bill of Lading was. On Saturday the 6th, Barry said one way or another he would have me a copy or the original on Monday. True to his word, he did. And on 9 April I was buzzing around town completing the steps to get the tag. I started at 10 and done by 3:30 at the Sat City Hall. (2 hours waiting at DoTax office for 10 minutes of their time at the window).

Don't bother going to any of those separate offices, Safety Inspection station, Hawaii Tax Dept, or City DMV unless you have the exact required paperwork (filled out saves time to) because you will not leave there happy. If you are missing something, you will be sent home to get it.

I think TM has learned a lot about what the different states want and demand. In those earlier days, it was understandable that TM would send something without a valid signature or was not notarized. They are better and I think the new owners benefit from each time TM does it. And now when someone goes into the DMV, the agents there no longer say "wow, are you sure this is a car? The price looks like you bought a 18-wheeler or locomotive".

I hope this helps answer your questions. Any paperwork they TM or SC sends you will shave/save you extra days or help you obtain the documents when you are ready to begin, so please return it as quickly as you can.

Aloha Everyone, As you can see from the emails below, I was not proactive about getting the paperwork required for paying the tax and registering the vehicle. I had the benefit of everyone's good advice here, but as the saying goes, "You can teach 'em, but you can't make 'em learn.". Anyway, just thought I would share this with you guys for whatever it's worth. For, me, I don't mind waiting for this paperwork from Tesla. Now that I have the car, paperwork is just paperwork.

Hi Jeff,

I am taking care of both items for you, expect them next week.

Robert

Cool. Thanks! How about the notarized bill of sale?

I’ll request from DMV team and send over your BOL. It would likely get to you by Wed., however, you are legal to drive with the temp tags.

Robert

I need a bill of lading and a notarized bill of sale to pay the tax and register the car. I got the car yesterday, but not the bill of lading and a notarized bill of sale.

nanimac, my white Model S is actually my wife's. As the husband, in lieu of driving, I get to do the paperwork. Look for my wife driving between our home on Kamehame Ridge and our business in Kaka'ako. BTW, there are three Teslas on this ridge, two red S's and our white one.

HNLDuck, yes, exactly. Usually we don't know the reason. I had a black one or order, I switched my deposit to one already here and TM cancelled my reservation. I don't know if my original car was built. TM was kind enough to remove some an option and add another to get it the way I would buy it. I am very happy with it, and think I like this configuration better than what I had ordered.

Count me in. I also met the gal who owns a Red Roadster on Kauai.

Regarding the trunk mats, what is the standard carpet color the car comes with? Does it depend on the color of the upholstery? I'd probably be interested but since I haven't seen my car yet, I'm not sure what color I would want.

Registered the car today. I am no fan of our civil servants, but have to admit it was pretty easy. I hit the tax office at 9:57 and had the tax paid and was out the door at 10:20. The gal in Window 1 never asked for any documentation, she just gave me my paperwork and steered me to the cashier at Window 6. Paid the tax and left, kept waiting for the roof to fall in, but it was painless.

For the registration, here is my BEST piece of advice. Register in Hawaii Kai. When I went to pick up blank paperwork last week there was no line. When I went today there was, again, no line. The people there were sticklers for the correct paperwork. Thanks to my compatriots in this forum, I had everything needed. I was out the door in under 30 minutes with plates and registration. For the registration take the BOL, Bill of Sale, Title, tax documents, blue safety inspection copy and completed Hawaii Form G-27 (Motor Vehicle Use Tax Certification). Perhaps the tax folks and satellite city hall folks are getting educated about this Tesla thing.
