Here's My Dilemma

So i ordered a SR+ White on White on October 10, of course at this moment the website was saying two weeks so i called my credit union and got approved for financing. Now i have talked to two different sale advisors here in denver and on said they think i should get my car mid november, and the other guy i talked said earliest for a sr+ model would be Early December and that AWD cars would be deliverd in mid november. So do i re order a AWD and hope for the best, and my final day for financling without re pulling my credit is November 24th. Or do i stick it out with my first order and hope that some sr+ models get built first. Dont know what to do.

Thanks,

I'm also going through Littleton. I can say from experience that the advisors you talked to likely have little if no more information than the general public on delivery times. I wouldn't bet anything on their predictions.

Choose the car you want and settle in for a frustrating wait. If it happens that the cars don't land until after you take another ding on financing... that's kinda what will happen.

You can also keep an eye on www.tezz.la, filter by Littleton. Keep your current order and if something pops up in inventory that you want, you can call the advisor team and switch it to that. That's how I got matched to my car.

For the future, there's no real reason to get the finance stuff done until your matched. I'd hold off on all of the paperwork until that point.

at this point i just want a car that is white by november 24th. I dont think the Dual Motor is really worth the extra 9k in my opinion. I test drove both the differences i felt in driving were not that different at all, except the zero to 60 that was legit.

Isn’t the range longer on the awd. I’m kinda in the same boat as you, my financing is done and my bank will just extend or I can reapply either way I got great credit so it doesn’t matter. I do have a trade in and my sales advisor just said wait till we get closer to deliver and get a quote from Carmax and they can match. I would say just wait for the car you want which ever you decide on.

Thanks,

Also in Denver Metro area and also just went through the same decision making process. Ultimately decided on a LR AWD even though it is pushing our budget. My reasoning was, when it is time to sell the car, Colorado market will be looking for two things: awd and range. Those are arguably the two most important things to a CO EV buyer. Cold weather will impact your range so nice to have the LR battery pack and while winter tires are way more important than awd, it still helps to have awd. If you can swing for it and if you think you have a higher probability of finding an inventory car with LR AWD, I'd say do it! You will recapture most of the price premium over SR when selling the car...

It's 100% your decision, but anytime you see any advice on buying EV's, the first thing they say is to buy as much range as you can afford... Leave other options on the table if that means getting more range.

I have yet to pick up my car, so I can't say how true that is, but I am going to tend toward that advice.

range at this point is 60 miles difference. I dont know that that is a huge difference, i daily commute around 54 miles total. so range isnt a issue as i dont take very many road trips either.

remember the range quoted doesn’t account for vampire drain or drain from cold weather. There are a few things that will take from your range. The 310 isn’t really 310 on the awd, so like others have said the more range you have the more you’ll really have after the various drains.

I think that if two sales advisors give two different guesses as to when the car will arrive - that it is nuts to try and predict. If wrong about one thing, they could be wrong about the other.

The problem of early financing approval is a big one. With 2-3 weeks on the website, most weren’t sure until a day or two ago what to believe or do. Credit unions sometimes are more flexible about financing than banks. Will yours extend the date of credit if possible - without re-verifying your credit? Some institutions have greater latitude than others.

The fact is that until we have coherent guidance as to what is coming when .... we are all operating off varying SA estimates - information probably taken from some vague e-mail issued to them. I would buy the car you want, not guess with the rest of Tesla when yours might arrive.

Awesome! Enjoy. No point in giving you the AWD pitch.

They are great cars.

Ask them what the date of manufacture is. It might be a demo/showroom car. That doesn’t mean anything is wrong with it but it’s good to have all the facts. It seems odd that the car just showed up out of nowhere.

This is the recent Tesla process. You place an order and they try to find one already built or coming down the line to get you one quick. If your exact configuration is not available, they will see what is close and offer it to you for quicker delivery.

If nothing pops up, they will need to wait until the factory gets around to producing your car, and there are lots of variables that can delay or speed up its arrival.

Tesla put on a huge push to get as many North American orders delivered as possible by end of Quarter (September). Were even giving cusomers free upgrades in wheels or colors if necessary to get the delivery done. Now they have shifted to huge backlogs of orders in Asia and Europe. They will be shipping pretty much everything they have overseas to deal with the long shipping times and the many eager customers with deposits.

So, buying a Tesla involves some planning and luck. Even the delivery specialists do not know all the details. They just have fresh sheets of inventory numbers available to them, and work their butts off trying to match customers with production/inventory.

If you are not flexible, and have a hard point, like financing, insurance, selling your current car, lease coming up, it gets really hard to pin down a hard delivery date. Delivery specialists work hard, but are always constrained by reality.

I waited 1 1/2 years to get my Model X. Thought I might never get it...then BOOM...there it is.

I just talked to them and they said no it was not a demo or marketing vehicle. the Vin is in the 500,000, the manufacturing date is 9/26. So it looks good :)

As I was going through this thread I was thinking "I should point out that all dates are estimates and the SR+ could come sooner, or the AWD later..."... yepp, this is also an option! Congrats.

I've seen this happen on this forum (actually a lot) when people call in with similar questions. Going outside the normal process gets them to look around and sometimes they find one.
