In a brazen robbery caught on camera, a person jumped out of a car in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood on Friday and smashed the rear window of a Prius, stealing a bag with what police said was filled with a drone and camera equipment.

Anything below $950 they don't care much due to Prop 47 making that a misdemeanor. That's why there's chronic shop lifting (even if people are caught, they are pretty much immediately let go). However in this case the items are valued $7000 or more, plus they smashed the car to get it (which is still classified as a felony), so the police would care a bit more about this. Plus this has blown up in social media, so it's a bad look for the city if they don't catch these people (there's been a few incidents recently that were similar that blew up and made the DA look really bad, so he had to respond).

However, SF is doing the "defund the police" thing, so the police department is likely going to have to cut staff, so property crimes likely will take even more of a back seat than it has already.
