This is not unexpected.
I thought there was a possibility that v10 might start to diverge, but apparently that didn't happen.
We fall in the category of HW2.5 Model 3 with FSD, but we only just paid for FSD, so absolutely not holding my breathe waiting for the call.
I would like to get HW3 by the time Tesla are OTA'ing true FSD-only capabilities (beyond the EAP feature set)
No problem. They installed HW3. They said they have been upgrading a lot of Xs, but I was the first A they upgraded at the Dublin CA center.

They first installed HW3.0 and then called me a few days after to say they need to replace it with (yes) HW2.5 as HW3.0 will not work properly with my MCU1. They replaced it with HW2.5 as I have AP2.5 (Sept 2017) and updated my software to V10, and now it all works well.

looks like I may not get this upgrade even after paying for my FSD on purchase... Hopefully Elon figures out how to make us whole without requiring us to buy a new car....
I wonder if this means that those with AP2.5 and MCU1 would get a free upgrade to MCU2?

I would be hopeful but if they replaced my HW3 to install HW2.5, I don't think they will upgrade me again to HW3 and my MCU1 to MCU2 without lots of $$$$.

In this case many would consider this as hardware not capable to have FSD and treat this part of the HW3 bundle.

As somebody with MCU1 AND AP2 and prepaid FSD (like many before me) I am now a lot more skeptical about the HW3 chip upgrade.
This is good data point for us who own MCU1 + HW2.5 cars. If MCU1 is having issues supporting HW3 (FSD), then Tesla definitely need to upgrade MCU of our car (or find other solution) to make it FSD capable if purchased the FSD package.

One thing i wanted to note is that after they first upgraded me to HW3, they tried to update my software to V10 and was not able to do so. I think it was because I had MCU1, therefore they called me in to replace it to HW2.5 and then they installed V10 with no problems.
Then, It might be software related. V10 release might not have addressed MCU1 + HW3 combo properly. They will do all they can to avoid more HW upgrades to make car FSD compliant.

Everyone withAP2.0-2.50 get free Tesla upgrade board to ap3.0 processor. This is 100% confirmed. All model S made from 2016 October (the only real revision so far. Get it!!! I have one 100%
My car was vuilt October 2016. “New revision w 9 cameras. Or 8 for AP2.0 I had now 3.0!!!!
