When i first got my Model 3 i tried my Ipod Classic (remember them) and it didn't work - couldn't access any music. I gave it another try yesterday and it works a treat now - the interface is a little clunky but at least it's getting there.

Yes plugged straight into the USB, it will analyse the data and then you can access it via the USB option in the music menu

Does that mean that it is likely that plugging an iPhone in direct will give access to its music library without needing bluetooth? If so, will this work with streaming services too?
Well, the car recognised that there were 2 USB music source devices connected and it has the facility to switch between the two. However, it did not load the tracks and eventually it dawned on me that my iPod was formatted for MacOs so it couldn't be read. I'm not going to reformat as it was just an experiment but all the indications are that it would actually work. That was with an iPod that predates the "Classic" as it's a "5th Generation" from 2004. Nowadays it only gets used when going on holiday but it still has great battery life and the hard drive seems fine.
