I rented a 2016 Model S on Turo for 24 hours last night. I wanted to make sure it fit in my garage for one, it was a close fit, but it works! I'm totally sold on an AP1 CPO car. Now I'm playing the waiting game....I have my budget sorted out. I just need the car to hit somewhere on the West Coast, so I can drive it home and avoid the $2K delivery.

Good plan do you care about color?

Good approach to be flexible and I concur with your preferences!
-A clean black car with dark-grey wheels often looks great though :)
Looking forward to the ownership photo's.
As an aside, Nissan are supposed to be bringing me the 2018 Leaf for a test drive to my house (in the Pacific NW) in 2 weeks.

Awesome, that sounds fun! I had a 2015 LEAF that I did a lease return on about 4 weeks ago. Once I turned that in, I turned into an animal crawling the Tesla CPO sites and forums daily. I was able to avoid it while I was still in the lease, because my hands were tied. But now, I'm in trouble....

Do you have any quick thoughts about what you like or didn't like about the car? I'm primarily looking at Tesla for its autopilot capability, so that I can relieve my daily commute somewhat. Did you get a chance to try it?

Yeah, I have tons of thoughts about it. My rental was a 2016 S75. It was somewhat bare on options, but it had autopilot enabled which was my main purpose of the rental. I'm mostly interested in Autopilot to make my 20 mile each way commute somewhat less painful. In short, it really helps. I was turning on AP all the time, as often as possible. It worked great in stop and go, I didn't have any hiccups or problems. I was giving co-workers rides all day, since they are all super interested in it as well. Everyone was blown away, it was a really fun day.

In the end, the rental proved that I want to push past my initial budget of $45K, and up it to make sure that I have a car with Autopilot. I have two main reasons for this.

1. I would use Autopilot every day that I drive the car
2. I think this will greatly increase resale value of the car

To elaborate just a little further, my wife wasn't interested in Autopilot at all. In fact it made her uncomfortable (she was in the passenger seat). Perhaps she'll get used to it, but I honestly doubt she would ever use it when she's driving. As for resale, I think an AP1 car with some decent options will hold up pretty well. I think people will always want AP cars, and these will depreciate less than the earlier non AP cars.

I like this one for the budget.
85 kWh Model S 5YJSA1CN4CFP02492 | Tesla

It has the 2 year 100k warranty and only had 21k miles.. with the suspension and upgraded radio. It also has the upgraded roof.

But for the money this would be my choice:
85 kWh Signature Performance Model S 5YJSA1DP8CFS00925 | Tesla

Best of luck.. Fit and finish shouldn't be an issue with a CPO.

I'm actually the new owner of the second one above (5YJSA1DP8CFS00925). Saw it and the price was perfect for us! Just waiting for it to be delivered now (Nov 10)!

I'm pretty flexible on color....at this point, it's the least important thing on my list. I would hope to avoid black (hard to keep clean) and red (not really my style). That said, if the perfect car came up in black or red, I'm pulling the trigger. My rental was blue metallic.....LOVED that color!

I would recommend getting a premium subscription on EV-CPO. Less then 2 weeks ago there was a 2014 Model S that was blue and had AP1 for $48k located in SF. It had a glass roof, 55k miles, standard suspension and tech package. I hesitated as I saw new Model 3 videos and decided to wait till official reviews come out before making the plunge.

Yep, I got my subscription and configurations saved. I'm just waiting for a car to hit! It's funny that you mentioned that $48K car in SF. It was actually $48,900, but it was a KILLER deal. P57272 if anyone is wondering.

I did not buy that car, but I should have! I was only on the sideline for a few weeks when that hit, and felt like I need to wait and watch a little longer. In hindsight, I should have bought that car. I have that listing printed out at my office and on my fridge at home. This car is where my 'bar' is set, and I won't accept less or pay more. I just hope something hits sooner than later.

Honestly, it's a really fun hunt. Every morning I wake up thinking "today might be the day that I buy a car". It's been a fun last couple of weeks.

Hey there,
I just bought a CPO car and wanted to chime in with some of my experience. I was fortunate enough to only hunt for a couple of days before I saw something I liked within my budget. I didn't want to go over $40k and wasn't too worried about AP. I wanted an 85 because I have a monthly commute back to Houston (about 150 miles one way) and didn't want range to be a problem. Glass roof, tech package, and sound package were my main desires.

It was around the end of July that I started looking and a fresh batch of higher mileage CPOs with reduced prices were released. My car was an S85 with 69k miles (2y 100k warranty) with the options I listed for $39.5. I put my deposit down and was called by a DS next day. Figured 15k miles a year was good enough and hoped that most of the build issues would have been taken care of at this mileage.

I certainly wasn't without anxiety though, as this was my largest purchase up to now and I'd never considered getting a luxury car, having driven only 'rollas, camrys, and accords before. The delivery process certainly didn't help as I was inching towards 9 weeks before I saw it, with myself partially to blame for the wait. However, taking delivery was absolutely exhilarating. The Austin SC did a fantastic job and I could not tell it had ~70k miles on it.

Seems like you're looking every day already, but times near quarter ends and stuff will probably yield CPO selections and discounts. Also, it seems like you're stretching a budget, so don't forget to account for tax! I didn't include that when I started looking and had to come up with a little extra to cover it. Get any issues you see put on a Due Bill before you leave. I had a crack on my MCU and the AC compressor was missing some dampening that they'll fix when parts arrive. In the end I've no regrets. The car rides like a cloud and turns every road into butter while becoming a searing blade itself.

Good luck!

Hate to double post, but was looking for an edit button and didn't see one to add a few details.
My VIN was a 15xxx, and I received a new drive unit as part of the CPO process. Additionally, they did the 4-year maintenance on it as well so (coolant flush and whatnot) so I felt like I got quite a bargain. I asked for a list of what they did during the CPO process and these things were listed in addition to everything else they fixed. Definitely ask for that as well as the CarFax when you get a chance. The former can only be given at delivery but the latter can be relayed through email.

Thank you for the info! I love hearing these stories, I'm really glad that things went smooth for you! At this point, I'm glued to my email just waiting for a hit from ev-cpo to come up. It sounds like the CPO cars are all awesome, good to know that the higher mile ones are awesome as well. I can't wait to get a car!

Has anyone ever dealt with (or know someone who has) a CPO that they just didn't like after a few days? How does that process work? Can you start looking for another CPO or do you just work with Tesla to get yours corrected?

I'm not sure if I understand correctly. Do you mean if you already have possession of the car or merely put the deposit down on it?

If you aren't happy with the vehicle you very recently placed a deposit on, my digging through the CPO thread indicates you're allowed to look for another CPO. Most likely will have to work something out with your Delivery Specialist. I don't have experience with it though but I don't think it could hurt to ask your DS. It might depend on how far along the process it is.
