If Teslas original production plan had played out as they wanted, then they would have reached 4-5K Model 3 by the end of 2017 (6 months before they did). If Model Y production ramp can be smoother due to the crossover, and everything they’ve learned, then it should take at least 6 months less time to get to SR Model Y.

First point we need to know is exactly when they plan to start production. January? March? We should get that metric at the unveiling.

Dual-motor standard hasn’t been confirmed anywhere yet. I’ve been keeping a very close eye on Model Y news for the past few years, so I’m sure this is still up in the air.

Rumor is that the panel gap issue will not be a problem for the Model Y.

I imagine that the Model Y versions and cost will be:

- Long Range Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive: ($47 k + 10%) = $52 K and (310 miles - 10 %) = 280 miles with the 18 inch Aero wheels

- and Performance version: ($58.k + 10 %) = $64 K and (280 miles - 10 %) = 250 miles with the 20 inch Performance wheels




Note:The estimated lost of range of 10 % between the Model 3 and the Model Y is what can be fond between the Model S and X.

Man, I hope they offer a LR RWD PUP at some point (after AWD and P are prioritized for gross margin purposes).
I'm already underwhelmed by the range hit vs Model 3, so hate to take more of a range hit than is necessary (I only need RWD Y, not AWD Y). I had been hoping that they'd take ~3 inches of the additional volume and add more 2170s to get Model Y to the 400+ range. The thought of buying a Y in 2020/2021, with 2018 Tesla battery tech/capacity, is not exciting me. I might be on the sidelines w/r/t Model Y, which is not what I thought I'd be thinking heading into the reveal.

My guess is top trims will be available (LR RWD PUP and up) for the first year of production. The Model 3 will be the only SR version available until demand for top trims of the Model Y are exhausted.

SR RWD = $39,000 with a range of 200 miles, top speed of 130 mph, and 0-60 of 5.9 seconds.
(10% rounded up for equivalent Model 3 trim @ $35,000, Will be advertised price, but sold after first year of production. Note competition base prices below.)

LR RWD PUP = $48,000 with a range of 300 miles, top speed of 140 mph, 0-60 of 5.5 seconds.
(10% rounded up for equivalent Model 3 trim @ $43,000. Could be $49,000 to match Model 3's initial price)

LR AWD PUP = $52,000 with a range of 280 miles, top speed of 145 mph, and 0-60 of 4.9 seconds.
(10% rounded up for equivalent Model 3 trim @ $43,000 + Same $4,000 cost increase from RWD to AWD for the Model 3. Could be $54,000 to match initial Model 3 cost)

P = $64,000 with a range of 280 miles, top speed of 162 mph, and 0-60 of 3.6 seconds.

With economies of scale, Tesla may release a couple variants between LR RWD PUP and SR RWD to match the model 3 trims of SR RWD Plus and MR RWD PUP. Also new trims SR AWD, SR AWD Plus, and MR AWD PUP could be added or replace the other trims avaiable.

Note the competition starting MSRP pricing of the "SUV/CUV Luxury Compact" segment of base trim and top trims (excluding options, delivery, etc.). Competition does NOT have AWD for some trims (front wheel drive).
