Hillary was the condition that produced Trump.
No, she just failed to stop him. The conditions which allowed someone as obviously incompetent and unstable as him to even have a chance at winning were established long before Hillary became the nominee. The frustration of the populace is to a large degree the failure of capitalism as we practice it in this country. Growing wealth inequity and socialism only for the rich is not sustainable and the people want change. They thought they were getting it with Obama but he didn't really deliver, so they went with Trump who also promised change and also failed to deliver.

If you do not know and understand history, you are bound to repeat it. Just like Groundhog Day.

The focus needs to be loud and clear. This is the Republican Virus. Making tRump the focus fails to shine the light on the Republican/Confederate power house. The recent supreme court nominee dictated by the Republican/Confederate party was not transparent or based on truth, as an example.

We have an election on the horizon. This country in near term does not know or fathom the scope of Martial Law. You need to be working to ensure we do not slip through the thin veil between the current restrictions and Full Martial Law where the Republicans could cancel our elections.

We have an upside down pyramid economy. The weight of the base of the pyramid pushing down will and is killing not just humans; but most large living creatures. Our government, what was to have been democracy, is also an upside down pyramid.

When you vote Republican; you agree with keeping women barefoot and pregnant, you believe in money is power, you believe in hate.

What I failed to include in my sermon in June 1970 on the subject of “Love,” is the thin veil between Love and hate. We know hate most commonly as Elitism, and love; well that is just hippie talk.

I use confederate here and freely because not only was the civil war about who had the most economic power and money, but it was hatred of democracy. The confederacy has been here since day on as white settlers/occupation force landed on our eastern most shores. Hence the federalists papers. The federalists papers were not incorporated by our founding fathers for a reason ~ they opposed those that wanted the fantasy of democracy. The current actions on the US-Mexican border is hatred focused on families trying desperately to seek a better way of life ~ is that so wrong that we deliberately destroy families?

NOTE: This may not make perfect logic, or resonate well, but it is my attempt to be short and sweet.

IMO, Biden is not well …. at all. Its criminal that establishment Dems are trying to nominate him.

BREAKING: Biden signaled to his donors today he will not be president for very long... Today he told Georgia donors his VP nominee would have to be prepared to immediately step into the top job.

Biden has talked with Obama about a possible vice presidential nominee

More they criticize Russia, more they become like Russia.

Could you narrow down that number a bit for us?

I'm beginning to this this might be Trump's strategy. Really spur the economy with the stimulus and the low interest rates, then just tell everyone not to worry about it, we've got plenty of vents, just go to work. More vents that you ever would have believed.

I'm not saying that I think that would work. I think it would go pretty poorly! I also don't think it's the only way to get to that strong recovery he is banking on.

This has been foretold in the Simpsons. We will be bankrupt with giveaways to businesses and even non-US businesses like the cruise, and our next President will be Liz. :)

There is video out there of Trump bragging about eliminating Obama's infectious disease task force a year ago. He didn't cause this outbreak, but a more conscientious, intelligent, and forward thinking presidential administration would have realized what was happening and done more to prepare. The medical supplies needed should have been stockpiled starting in November. Same thing with opening the flood gates to make more ventilators. As soon as the virus was sequenced, both start work on tests and get the labs that will be doing the testing up to speed. Government grants would have allowed labs to hire staff and expand their testing capabilities when a test was available.

Though there is an interesting quirk in the constitution that may save us from any attempts Trump makes to stop the election. The constitution mandates the date of the election and each state is responsible for running their elections. The feds can't stop the states from having elections. The constitution also mandates when the electoral college meets and there isn't anything Trump can do to stop it.

The constitution is silent on how electors are picked and while most states have done it by popular vote since the early 1800s, South Carolina did it by the state legislature until the Civil War. During reconstruction they were forced to change to popular vote. Some states may go back to their legislatures picking the electors if they want to cancel the election, but I think we'll see quite a few states adopt universal vote by mail at least as an emergency measure this one time. Especially Democratically controlled states.

For those who keep saying that both Dems and Republicans are beholden to corporate interests, what have you to say about the current senate [bailout] bill?

As I understand it the House bill did have corporate loans that needed to be paid back, but companies under 500 employees could get loans that would be forgiven if they used the money yo keep paying employees. I heard a few different versions, but there was something about giving checks to lower income people. I think the original proposal was to give $1200 to everyone making less than $65K and between $65K and $100K it would taper to $0.

McConnell wants to not give any low income person any money, but give it all to the wealthiest.

Are there any specifics you could cite where Democrats are screwing over the little guy in favor of deep pocket interests?

No, my question was more for the Republican supporters. To me, at this time of need, their differences couldn't be more evident.

He looks like he did not have a good night's sleep. Oh wait, he always looks like that. haha

As I watched the towers fall on 9/11 I had no concerns about my personal safety. It was obvious to me that Al Qaeda was never going to have the capability to strike like that again. Those sorts of attacks rely on complete surprise.

I was deeply concerned about what bad actors would do to corrupt the system and was sure we were going to get into disastrous wars.

With this, again I'm not concerned about my personal safety. I am concerned about some friends and family who do fall into the high risk population, but my biggest concern is about bad actors again. When people are scared and looking for leadership, they often flock to authority figures that tell them what they want to hear.

In 2001 GW Bush and his people instinctively knew how to do the right swagger to get people on board and his approval peaked at 90%. Trump always shoots himself in the foot and even though his approval has gone up in the last week or so, on the Five Thirty Eight average it's been about 2 points
How Popular Is Donald Trump?

I am very concerned that Trump will manage to get away with this or in his incompetence he will do severe damage to the country, but he has a minefield of problems ahead of him. The Democrats get that this is the time for bottom up stimulus if there ever was a time. Even the best arguments for trickle down economics only work if the normal consumer economy is operating. But McConnell wants to make the rich richer and let the poor die of starvation.

Trump has the most conservative Christian groups in his corner like never before. Those who believe the Book of Revelation are seeing it play out right now. The largest populations hit by COVID-19 right now are in the blue states where these beliefs are not common. As long as it's "heathens" dying, they are, in some cases, actually happy. The virus outbreak is still minor in Appalachia and the Deep South where these beliefs are most common.

There is a possibility that the virus doesn't have a major outbreak in this part of the country, but I think it's highly likely. Trump and his economic people want to open things back up ASAP. There was an article my SO found yesterday that Trump personally is losing 1/2 million a day on just a handful of properties and he has all those properties heavily mortgaged. If Trump tries to open things up, the blue state governors will ignore him and do what they feel is best to control this, but many red states will try to go back to business as usual.

Some percentage of those kids who flocked to Florida for spring break last week got infected and now went back home and a many of those are going back to red states. The European travel ban fiasco also crammed thousands of people together in airports in a big rush to get home and some of those people were headed for red states.

The odds it's taking root in red states now are very, very high. As of a few days ago at least 40% of Trump's supporters still believed COVID-19 was a hoax and were refusing to comply with any of the recommendations to avoid contact with others. Many red states have higher obesity rates and higher tobacco use than blue states. Thanks to adopting the Medicare expansion in blue states and not in red states the medical systems in blue states tend to be more stable.

If it starts expanding in red states like it has in New York City, it will be much harder to contain. With a population initially disinclined to believe it, fewer medical resources, and a larger at rick population, it could get very grim.

That would likely sink Trump politically. Though it appears Trump is using the strategic medical supply reserve politically. The initial states hit by COVID-19 were screaming for extra resources and not getting them, but when it started growing in Florida Trump released the first ventilators from the reserve, all to Florida. Washington, Oregon, California, and New York still haven't gotten any.

The anti-Trump ads haven't really started running yet. Bill Kristol has the Defending Democracy Together PAC that has released some anti-Trump ads. The Lincoln Project with Steve Schmidt, Rick Wilson, and Kelly Ann Conway's husband are producing ads, and then Michael Bloomberg has promised to pour a fortune into ads and I would not be surprised to see Tom Steyer going after Trump too.

Bill Kristol is trying to recruit a third party candidate to run to Trump's right. I suspect Joe Walsh is going to do it.

Bill Kristol and The Lincoln Project especially know exactly what kind of spin works on Republican voters. They will be punching those buttons hard to convince would be Republican voters that Trump is not their guy.

We still have a long ways to go until the election. My logic says Trump's chances of re-election are slim, but my limbic system has yet to get the message.

Wasn't certain to put this in the Coronavirus thread or this one, but as it mostly pokes at the terrible response this administration has done, I put it here.

I've seen some of that guy's other videos. He takes a humorous poke at all things legal. And we need humor right now.
