Model 3 requiring MOT soon

Got my MOT done by Windmill Garage in Derby earlier today. He'd already printed off the govt MOT guidelines for Tesla and with the help of my jack pucks and some pointers ref the controls, all went without a hitch. So if you're in Derby, give them a call. £45.

I was pleased with the condition of the tyres, Michelin Cross Climate, which now have around 15k on them but still lots of tread left and all nice and uniform. I was also able to look at the suspension and under the car and all looked to be fine. So happy with that - just 2 miles from my house.

One trivial issue the first time I got my Model S done: the odometer isn't on the display when the car is 'off'. However, as I had it set up at the time, the trip meters were on the display, one of which I hadn't reset for a while - so I got an MOT cert with a completely bogus mileage on it as they took the trip meter as the odometer!

Highly recommend Cleevley EV. They are based in Cheltenham so I had to drive an hour and a half each way but they specialise in EVs so know what they are doing. You can email them for a quote, I also got mine serviced at the same time.

They have a place to work and Wifi so I just worked there for a morning. Passed with advisories for tyre tread levels.
Cleevely charged me £90 for a 4 wheel alignment check, despite the fact you can't do a 4 wheel alignment on a Model 3. Not impressed.

I took my Model S to National Tyres Stockport for its MOTs 2 years running. The folks there were great and interested in the various warnings of death and injury I provided them from the manual.

It passed both times. Flying colours on emissions ;).

Same for me with National Tyres in Urmston (see post #7 above), plus offered MOT's at 50% discount if booked online.

If anyone is interested I took my car here in the end

The MOT tester knew to use jack picks, although didn't have enough but luckily I keep mine in the boot so advise brining your own.

They also didn't know how to do a brake test so drove it with low regen and done it old school wayother than that it was fine and I was on hand to show them how to change into drive, operate lights etc.

Note there's another one down the road from this one in Croydon but wouldn't recommend them from prior experience and they also said they don't touch Tesla's

Hi I'm interested to know who else may do a better job in the area? I'm 40mins from Cheltenham near Bourton on the Water and grateful for any recommendations for my Model 3's first MOT coming up end Sept. if Cleevely getting mixed reactions. Anyone better out there, agree with avoiding a chain if I can.

Recently had my Tesla Model 3 LR MOT carried out by Sheltune in Northampton:

Sheltune

Kettering Road North branch.

Tesla Northampton told me that's who they use for MOTs.

I printed out the MOT guide I found in another thread and left my jacking pucks in the car, but they must have had their own.

No problems.

I took my Model S for the first MOT in my care to a HEVRA garage that also did MOTs and that could do van class or above as that meant they had a good big lift. For the Model 3 I'd just choose your nearest HEVRA garage that offer MOTs or that can sort an MOT for you with a suitable garage.

Other EVs don't quite have the quirks of the Tesla so I'd think any normal MOT Place would be fine. There's also the council run ones that don't do repairs as well.

I'd rather the person checking the car over actually knew what they could poke with a screw driver and what they shouldn't.
Yes, I used my nearest HEVRA garage, partly because I could be sure it wasn't their first EV, and hopefully also not their first Model 3, and also so I could get a sense of how well they could do other jobs that I would otherwise go to Tesla for (three times further). Cotly Garage in Blairgowrie did a good job (as far as I could tell), and I got my MOT without extra cost.

A lot of places that see decent volumes of Teslas (eg tyre shops) now have Tesla pucks.

Bit different to a few years ago when you’d be greeted with a sideways quizzical look 😅
I took my Model 3 to my local tyre place for a puncture. The guy was clearly terrified of the pucks/lifting issues and more or less said he would do it at my risk. By the time he finished he was happy and confident. Curiously the very next car in line was another Model 3. The owner did not know about the pucks, or thought they must be in the boot somewhere. I explained he needed to buy a set, and lent him (ie the garage) one of mine so his car could be worked on. I got it back later that morning.

I like to think they have been happily fixing Teslas ever since?

Yeah. There’s plenty of Tesla now out in the wild. Garages not having a set of matching jack pads isn’t as much of a thing now. Plenty of cars now hitting their 3 year birthdays.

I just took my Taycan to get a new front tyre after an unfortunate screw in the shoulder ruined a perfectly good almost brand new tyre. The fitter said oh we’ve got our Tesla pads we can use - no good I said. It’s a completely different shape on the Porsche. So I keep a full set in the frunk just in case.
