Model S/X deliveries with Intel-based MCU

My mid-January order (still not even entered production yet!) has a VIN of 935xx, but my SA is in the process of changing my order to an identically-configured new-inventory order with a VIN of 902xx (~3380 VINs behind my original order) which she told me (by written text message) has the new VIN and it left the factory on 12th March 2018 - so it must have been amongst the first with the new VIN, I guess.

I'm looking forward to delivery on 31st March, so I'll report my findings too. I'll test the MCUs on the other showroom cars too :D

Sorry for the buzz kill Mark. On the upside, I believe the new vector based nav maps that have rolled out are proving to be faster on the original MCU1 hardware as well.

Hope you enjoy the new car! :D

Vector based maps will be faster for sure.

I have to keep telling myself that the original MCU has been solid in my previously owned mid 2014 MS85. This car seems faster and more responsive that my 2014. In any case, I never really had an issue with the "lag" in the previous. Now that we have all pointed it out, I notice it all the time. Now I am a little hyper-sensitive about it now. But, it is what it is and Tesla is not going to do anything about it. We had the same issue with AP1, AP2, AP2.5, Next Generation Seats, the MS Refresh, and the list could go on and on. Like "us" buyers who just took delivery of their cars just prior to these features coming out were complaining loud and clear. The Upgrades that Tesla later offered to current owners that I recall were Next Generation Seats , LTE, Center Console, TPMS (depending on the SC), Windshield Washer Mist nozzle (depending on the SC) and perhaps others I can't recall. The Most expensive of these was the seat upgrade that came in a about $3,000. I expect we might see an MCU upgrade option provided the existing wiring harness supports it. My guess on pricing if they offer it will be $2500-$3000. I suppose it could be less if they give credit for the old assembly which they would refurbish and user for service parts.

All just a bunch of guessing on my part.

I ordered a Model X last Saturday from Switzerland.

I spoke to my SA this morning and asked her if she could find out if it is sure that I will get the new MCU (it should be the case, since delivery will happen in June and production hasn't even started...).

She wrote back later today saying that she couldn't confirm nor deny anything about the MCU I would get because they haven't received any official communication about it. She was actually surprised when I told her this morning that latests deliveries in the US are coming with a new MCU. This was news to her!

Quadruple check before taking delivery. I had a P100D order confirmed on Jan 31 or February 1 that did not have the new MCU. However, it was ready for delivery February 27 so much earlier than yours. Just make sure to check.

New MCU confirmed!

I am just wondering if the MCU itself is in charge of nav calculations (and not only display) ?
Tegra is a graphic processor...

Also......aren't the calculation cloud based ?

The Navigon system currently used in the S&X is an offline system that only uses the maps downloaded and stored on the CID. (Though, if available, it does use traffic data from the cloud.)

And the Tegra 3 in the MCU isn't just a GPU.

it's more complicated.

The navigon route calculations are performed on IC (so even slower tegra2 cpu). But Tesla maps are performed on cid.

That said there's a bit of a cloud calculation too to doublecheck superchargers and such. I saw teslamaps implementation in particular refuse to work when there was no network connection avialable.

I just got off the phone with my DS delivery specialist in toronto. and he saw the tweet, but he states nobody in tesla sales and service have heard any further details.

That's exactly what they told me too. They said they'd let me know as soon as they hear anything.

I think it's just Elon being Elon.

By the way, how's that SDK coming along?
