Model X 90kWh battery pack degradation

Don't want to sound stupid but...

Last night I bought a May 2016 build X P90D w/ 14k miles. Battery said range had 195 miles at that time. When we drove home at night in the rain the 45 mile journey the range dropped by 75. Maybe because of weather, heater, etc.

Does the range allow for the fact that I have 22" rims? Does the car figure out range on actual past data like that?

I bought it at Carmax and can refund it within 7 days. After reading this thread I think I might. It's stunning. And a good price at $83,999. But I'd rather buy a 100D. Don't need fast.

Hi all. I have noticed rather extreme degradation of my 90 battery pack on the X (P90D). The car was purchased last March has 24k miles. At full charge was about 255 miles full charge and 90% was 225. Now, it’s 235 for a full charge and 208 for 90%.

This, despite what some are saying, is not normal based on my experience with my 2013 model s (p85+) that is almost 5 years old with 54k miles. Full charge on that is now about 255 and new was 263. 90% charge now 228 was 235 so very little degradation.

Do we have recourse? Basically just deal with it? Does anyone have a story where Tesla actually did anything besides telling you it’s normal??

Tesla owes you a new battery. They will resist but others have prevailed and received new 90 packs. They usually require an NDA to receive the new pack which is why there is so little public discussion. That said, if you do some digging and PMing you can get all the information you need to proceed. The lemon law is the usual starting point. Once you file and Tesla receives notice, they will become much easier to deal with. It can take up to one year to get the new battery and in some cases, Tesla will offer to buy the car back. I would start with your state AG website and research lemon law case settlements. In florida the mediation panel nearly always sides with the consumer. Tesla was ordered to repurchase on MS last year for a noisy AC. Battery capacity loss is a slam dunk. Good luck.

Just another data point. Been a while but finally had a need to charge to 100% (well, it was like 5 minutes from finishing) but I figure about 243 at 100%. 2017 MX 90D, v3 battery, 35k miles. Supercharged maybe 15 times last summer for trips but nothing recently.

Our MX 90D is in its second winter in New York. Last week, with temps in the teens and 20's, (car is garaged overnight) 30 miles of non-highway driving consumed 100 miles of charge. With temps in the 40's this week, consumption is only twice milage driven.Expected battery degradation or something for the SC to look at?
 
Does anyone know at what % of degradation the warranty kicks in? Does age of car play into decision from Tesla? The way that the warranty is written is very open ended, which is very surprising. I've lost another few miles and starting to approach the lower 230's for a 100% charge. I know from this thread there are people much lower than that for a 90D X.

Work has been crazy so I've not attempted to engage the Service center yet, but I'm just wondering what are other people's experiences?
 
I purchased my first Tesla (also my first EV) this past December. Can you guys see if my calculation and assumptions sound correct?

2016 Model X P90D
about 21k miles now
22" wheels
90% SOC = 212mi (December and January outdoor temps in the southeast roughly 30F - 70F)
100% SOC = unknown (never charged to 100% and purchased car used)

estimated 100% = 212/0.9 = 236mi

assume 100% SOC originally was 250 mi
degradation = 1 - (236/250) = 0.06 = 6%

Does that sound right? Did I calculate correctly? My X (purple dot) sits below the red line on the chart attached.

That looks correct. My 2016 X 90D charged to 215mi at 90% today. That puts me at 215/.9 = 239mi compared to the original 257. I'm at 7% degradation.

The chart you show; is that for 90kWh packs only, or for all reporting vehicles? Because that makes quite a difference. I'm willing to bet 90Ds are heavily represented below the fitted curve.
 
X 90D March 2016 build, VIN 1500's, 27000 miles. 80% charge = 200 miles; therefore 100% charge should be around 250 miles. So about 3% degradation. I haven't done many full charges/discharges and very rarely supercharge (a few times per year).
