Multiple Warnings Immediately After Taking Delivery

So apparently there is no ABS fuse. I took it for a short 20km drive and all the warning lights were still on. Stopped for 15minutes and washed the car. Got back in to leave and all the alarms were gone. Will continue using the car with my temporary fix until I can get to the service center.

I've had this same barrage of error messages on my 2018 MS 75D (only 3,300 miles) popping up intermittently over the past 10 days. When these messages pop up, all ABS/auto-brake-related features are disabled (no regen braking, no traction control, no AP, etc.).

I finally swung by the Tesla dealer/SC yesterday, as opposed to scheduling an appointment online. I've found it's much easier to just drop in on the SC to get their immediate attention. In my case, that's convenient, as I work only 1 mile from the SC.

The service tech was able to take the last 6 digits of my VIN and found error codes in their system. It is a faulty right front wheel speed sensor. This was what I was expecting, just from googling this issue and finding other similar Tesla forum threads. They have to order the new sensor (made by Bosch), but they scheduled me for the repair this coming Tue (needed 4-5 days for part to be delivered). Hopefully, it's an easy repair.

When I asked if this was common on such a new vehicle, he said no, not at all. He said he had only seen/done about 3 of these at Tesla. So, honestly, that gives me a bit of concern. But, maybe I'm just the "lucky one".

Update: had my MS75D into the SC last Friday and had the right front wheel sensor replaced same-day. So far so good on the replacement. Still, it's unsettling that a car with 3,000 miles would need a new sensor. I'm guessing it was somehow getting rubbed by the right tire and after 3,000 miles it wore into the wire. I hope that was resolved so I'm not back in another 3,000 miles for a repeat.

Trying again.

Reviving an old thread here. It appears I have the issue you had. Right wheel sensor detached from its latch and rubbed against the wheel and got worn out to the copper. You mentioned you spliced the cable back together. Simply putting electrical tape around it wouldn’t have worked? Trying to temporarily fix mine until I can get to the SC. Photo of my cable damage attached. Any info appreciated.

how does that happen?

First off I should mention it’s the wheel sensor cable that detached, not the sensor itself. I believe techs forgot to put the rubber piece that latches the cable to the wheel back when they replaced my half shafts to fix the infamous shudder. Or at least that’s my theory. That made the cable rub against the wheel and of course wear out after a while. At any rate, I was able to splice the cable back together with automotive electrical tape and reattach it to the wheel using a tie wrap. Alerts are now all gone and the car operates normally. Will get service to fix permanently but this is doing the trick for now. Photos of the before and after.

We were on vacation traveling through the Sequoia National Forest and Kings Canyon enroute to the Bay Area on a Sunday when our left front speed sensor cable broke loose and started rubbing our wheel. We were 150 miles from the service center and needed a quick fix to make it. So with a cheap solder iron, solder, electrical tape and zip tie the below chronicalizes our quick fix... I felt confident that this temporary repair could have safely carried us for a few weeks and a return trip to San Diego if needed but Tesla Service in Santa Clara took care of us the next day when we brought the car in for repairs.

Good to hear you’re back in business. I notice you are missing the rubber part that latches to the wheel assembly. So did I. Was it ever there to your knowledge or is it a manufacturing defect?

do you have a picture of what that rubber part looks like?

There you go. First photo is front left wheel and second is front right wheel. Where I put the tie wrap is where that rubber piece should have been and also why the cable rubbed against the wheel in the first place. It was loose. Given the piece needs to be inserted before the cable is connected, my therory is that it was either never installed or removed and forgotten by accident when my half shafts were replaced.
