Otherwise your just Averaging the spring rates when two different springs are used, or in the case of a special singular dual rate spring your still averaging the two rates? Of course if you have a coil bound spring you get some benefit but that does not make sense in the context of the picture of the spring in the first post?

Does the lower part of the spring completely bind before the upper part compresses?
