New Grill Design

I thought it's a bumper strength regulation that mandates the bumper can take a 2.5mph impact without damage (or less than $500 to repair). The cone effectively being a plastic bumper that can be replaced for under $500. I suppose if it were to have a more elaborate design, it would be more costly to replace.

Franz told me at the LA store open that is was the pedestrian rule that he had to conform to.

I remember that thread from Dec 2012 and contributed some hand-drawn (ie, not 3D rendered) ideas for 'fake grills' and front end mods. I realise air flow into a grill is not needed, and keeping the Cd low is important, but I really like my mod #3 below that removes the gaping chrome surround.

Peoples views may have changed now that there are about 30,000 MS's out in the wild, but here's the original artwork again :-

Mod 3 gets my vote- this, fully de-chromed (not just the front end), would look fantastic on a P.

Did someone say Fish Mouth! I got one. been looking for shark teeth. or a red tongue sticking out.

I've never seen that design but I'm thankful Tesla build it.

No offense intended but in the age of Photoshop everybody's become a designer. But none of us is as good as Franz. I'm thankful for his very creative and graceful eye.

I'm sorry but Franz missed the front design, it has been criticized buy everyone it looks cheap. I hope a better front nose coming up soon.

+1 very nice

Grill or no grill

...Can you do one with vertical slats - I bet it will look even better.

See post #7 MS Front Grill Alternatives

Thinking about the current disliked grill and comparing it with other cars I see on the road, I find it's presence makes for a more aggressive sporty statement which suites a Model S. A no-nose look might be a better fit for a smaller car (E?). A couple of narrow grills reminds me of the late Prelude (and if that thought evokes a certain feeling, there's your truth).
