News...referral program not available to private party buyers

I just had my first confirmed referral. Totally legit referral. Helped him through the process. Hooked him up with the product specialist that helped me through the process...he finalized his decision Saturday on an inventory new P85D.

Just learned that, since all I own is a lowly private sale Model S VIN 61,8xx... I am not allowed to participate. My advocacy of the car is not worthy I guess. Lesson learned.

My friend will get a referral code very easily, so no worries there. Just somewhat irritated that I am not a member of the club because I purchased a 10mos old car from not-Tesla.

Anyone one code away from the GigaFactory event?

I can get a code. I just can't benefit from it. Hence...looking for someone who can...and quick. Friend's new car is an inventory car, do delivery expected late next week or earlier.

I don't buy this. Doesn't make sense. What Bonnie said- is your VIN now registered with Tesla as you as the owner? When you log on to my tesla, do you see YOUR referal link?

That does not clear it up but thank you. I cannot benefit from the referral program. Looking for someone who can. Super simple.

Since every other owner CAN benefit from the referral program, we're all pretty much convinced that you have another issue going on. Are you able to log onto MyTesla?

We get you're trying to share your referral & that's very gracious of you. People are just concerned that you are't fully set up in the system.

CPOs get it too. Immediately after I purchased my yet to be delivered sig red CPO my referral link showed up.

Sorry, I meant that you can't get the discount on CPOs.

As far as I know, anyone who owns a Model S using any method: ordered, inventory, CPO, or private party sale is eligible to be a referrer to someone else (the referee) buying an ordered or inventory car.

This. From the first reply to the Op to most of the others, we are all surprised to hear this. To my knowledge, if you can log into the My Tesla Dashboard, your referral link will be there and everyone with a living Tesla on the road would have one. But if you are not properly set up in the Dashboard, then I can see you not being properly set up for the referral program. That is not a limitation of the referral program but of getting your access in the Dashboard fixed.

His 2nd post in the thread indicates that he has a referral link & that Tesla told him it isn't valid. He wrote:

I dunno. Words directly from the product specialist when I called to get the referral applied.
