I’m no expert but that level of wear looks like it would need to be dyed in order to look decent again. I did something like this a long time ago on an Acura and the process involved an actual dye followed by some kind of sealant. I can’t remember the name of the product. It will never look new again but at least it will be harder to spot the wear.
Have you considered looking for a less worn replacement on ebay?
try using shoe polish. and make sure u use the brush with it after you apply it. then id also suggest you wipe over it vigorously and for a good amount of time to ensure all of the possible polish that is not engrained in the leather will come off on the rag and not your clothes!!!
