That's weird. Did he just "cold email" you out of the blue? You must surely be on some list...
Mine wasn't offering EOY delivery, however. He just said "touching base to see if there is anything I can help with?".
I looked again and my guy's title is actually "Sales Advisor / Lead Marketer" and based in my city, so if he's doesn't realize my name is already in the database, I've got a problem.

Yep, cold e-mail based off some list I was on somehow. The weird thing was that I’ve never been to a Tesla show room or contacted them in any way other than my Model 3 order. They seem to be a terribly disorganized company.

I've had pretty good luck with them so far.
For context: I placed my order in a showroom (in a mall) with a Sales Associate who completed my order online. I had his cell number (to text him a copy of my digital insurance card), so was able to text him a two different times since then - both of which he answered almost immediately. My Delivery Specialist contacted me the day of the order and answered my single email (sent a week after my order) within a few days. Today was the email from the new guy. Not sure why. I fear it's a prophylactic customer service initiative launched to counteract the disappointment felt when I don't get my car by 12/31. Hope I'm wrong.

I got a teaser email from my delivery center. Saw the email pop up on my phone from the delivery center and it was just an invite to come in and see a presentation on how to utilize all the features on the vehicle. So, I can’t say they have left me in the dark but dang I thought it was my vin hahah
I got a teaser too! The pickup center called me & I got excite, but all they want was to asked me if I like to attend a seminar to learn about the Model 3 features. I said sure why not, so I'm attending this Sunday.

The people putting out these teasers and doing these seminars have no clue as to the fact that you have already ordered - or they wouldn't be doing this at all. Why are they trying to court people who have already ordered cars? One hand of the company doesn't know what the other is doing.

Again this shows that Tesla must perceive is that the US or N. American market is soft for Model 3's. Tesla clearly doesn't understand that if the N. American market is "soft" for Model 3's - it's because of Tesla making them such an ordeal to get! No one wants to wait so long for a car.

If people knew and could count on Tesla's taking 2, possibly 3 weeks to receive after ordering, they would buy them far more than ever before. Even when the website said 2-3 weeks, no one ever believed it.

Wake up Tesla! You are ruining your own potential success!

I think you need to relax a little. Tesla hasn't been around for a long time, so I'm not going to knock them on the wait & communication. They will learn from their mistakes & will improve over time. If this was like Ford, Toyota, or Honda that's been around for years & years, then ya I get frustrated. You got to remember, this is a brand new car manufacture company, you can't expect things to be perfect right away. Netflix was never perfect when they first started nor did Amazon. But once you grow & gain experience, look at them now, they are a force to be reckon with, they have put many companies out of business.

He wants the same level of service and experience from a 10 year old company with innovative never before produced products as a manufacturer with 110 years of experience in both engine and customer experience....

is that so much to ask?! :D

Well perhaps. I am hard on most businesses because they waste so much money. Financially I am conservative and believe in slower growth and more sustainable profits. I worked in Silicon Valley for years and saw many companies go up and down - and no, they were not small!

Amazon was smart for years. They really never turned a profit until a few years ago. No one cared! The big prop at Amazon were their web services (AWS) that basically kept the whole company fed with cash all during their lean times. Slowly Amazon waited for close to 20 years and finally it's retail is in the black too. They have solid earnings and AWS is also still a big cash cow. I don't like the Amazon culture (pay workers terribly, etc.), but I respect their slow rise to the king of retail. Now, the company is more bulletproof than Apple.

Netflix is a company that I wouldn't bet my money on. They are losing subscribers to competition with bigger pockets, etc. They have too many competitors (i.e -- Apple just opened "Apple TV+" today). Content is getting more and more expensive. While I'm not a big fan of buying stock - I definitely would not buy Netflix. Remember "Blockbuster"?

Tesla is heavily leveraged and spending money as fast as it can borrow it. That's why their stock price is up and down all the time. Tesla is walking a financial tightrope. For a company that is extremely innovative and smart, they have made some pretty speculative business decisions, etc.- China...? Their products and ideas are years ahead of the competition. But counting the number of Tesla's sold every quarter must be getting pretty old for some people. Just my opinion.

I'm just surprised anyone gets any sleep over there!

Nah they addressed as welcome to the Tesla family type thing and congratulated me on the purchase.

That being said, I’m sure it’s not a very exclusive. Email list.

Like I posted before just cancel your order. You’re getting a special car I think we ordered a about the same time and I’m getting mine next week. I think you will be happy within your Tesla. Could the process be better ofcourse but rightnow I’m in the position where the Tesla is a toy more than a Nessity. I’m sure you are too or you wouldn’t be looking at a Tesla. In my state I just found out I have to basically fund and buy the car before even seeing it. That’s ok it’s a first world problem and I’ll deal with the issues that may come after delivery. You’re gonna love your car I’m sure Of it

one thing i think you guys arent realizing is most auto markers who dont have a car in stock when you special order it can take up to 3 months to get i order an audi a5 in 2011 waited 2 and half months i order a 17 bmw m3 and waited 3 months its common to wait for something to be built. as far as as telling us what is going on and what wait times will really be they should be more uofront but i think with them worried about stocks and how people view Tesla they kind of keep what they are doing to themselves and there is a learning curve also most auto markers have 3 to 4 factories in different locations were as tesla has one and a half lets be glad we can wait for an amazing car like this i been waiting since 9/28 and i am still waiting

Yes I know. That’s why I said “ publicly”

Same as Model 3, when Tesla is ready, they will have a splashy dog and pony show where we can touch and feel the Model Y, complete with test drives for the media.

Until then, no mass production, so it won’t impact Model 3 sales year.

Google the "Osborne effect". In fact, when I did that I see there is an interesting prediction regarding BEVs versus ICE vehicles that shows the industry hurting during the transition where ICE sales fall off sooner than BEVs pick up. That could very well happen.

In relation to the models Y vs. 3, I think there will be such an effect since every other car maker seems to feel the SUV/Crossover vehicles are much more popular than sedans. I can see people not buying a 3 because it isn't what they want and the Y will be out in a year. This will be most pronounced in the months leading up to the high volume production. I can see this happening sooner because Tesla has announced the production of the Y earlier now.

BTW, the "Osborne effect" actually put the Osborne company out of business.

What happened to you? You sound like you've had a really bad experience?

Yeah, I have. Bought an X in mid 2018 and it has been in the shop some five or more times. That's bad enough, but they won't fix most things. Falcon wing doors won't work correctly. They often don't open fully. Some of it has been explained to me (there's a box the car constructs based on what it sees as the door starts to open, won't move outside that box) but the door just plain malfunctions intermittently. I even took photos of the door sensor detecting a presence when nothing was there, no one downloaded the car data. Then there was the time someone was trapped in the mid seat, couldn't get either rear door to open from inside or outside door controls. Finally found the console would still work. Service center never downloaded the data and won't fix anything.

Same story with passenger side mirror. Same story with several other problems with the car. If they can't "see" it fail, they won't try to fix it. Often they come up with justifications for why it malfunctions, like someone must have bumped my mirror which kept it from opening.

The most recent problem was the car not charging at a Supercharger. I plug it in, watch it start charging and go to a restaurant for food. I get a notice the charging has stopped. I try to restart from the phone and it's cranky and keeps quitting. Food comes and I call 800 number. On hold all through the meal and car starts charging on it's own. Finish eating and head out to the car as someone picks up. Charging almost done he runs diags and says the 12 volt battery sensor is flaky. Charging done and we reset the car and he schedules a mobile repair. A week later the mobile repair guys gets in touch and wants more info. I give him the info and tell him the voice commands have quit working. He cancels the mobile repair and schedules a service center visit because they want to upgrade the ECU to 3.0. So now I'm waiting two more weeks and he doesn't download the data once again. With no data to back it up it is unlikely they will fix anything.

Before this model X I had a 20 year old pickup truck that gave me less trouble. I still had problems getting the damn thing fixed, but if things got bad I could repair it myself. I'm told Tesla won't sell a lot of their parts to users, so I'm stuck with the service centers... if you can find one.

What is the last 5 of your RN number? I ordered Oct. 12th and mine is 54276.
Just curious how many cars were ordered between yours and mine - assuming they're sequential, that is.

I also ordered Oct 12.. my order number is 54990, you must have ordered early in the day :) Mine was late afternoon..

It was about 2pm, right after my test drive. If they are sequential, there were 714 cars sold between mine and yours. In one day!
Another guy here posted his RN from Oct. 10th (or so) that seemed to suggest there were 835 cars ordered between the two days.
Again, if these numbers go in order, it seems demand is increasing, not decreasing.

Hopefully the rumors of December deliveries are not true. If it is true then why buy now when you can wait a little longer and get a 2020 model 3? I’m still deciding on when to order and if delivery is now in December then I’ll definitely wait til 2020. That’s B.S. if they’re filling International orders first (if true) and making U.S. buyers wait til December!
I ordered a LR premium on 9/26. It is a 2020MY with a Oct. 2019 build. Delivery time was 4 weeks.

Oct 5th order
LR AWD
Blue/White
19 Sport
FSD

RN = 39467

Called Sales office since my SA must have gotten mauled by a bear or something. Was basically told that 20+ vehicles sold at that center have not been delivered yet. Used the tracking spreadsheet to say that's strange because here's these VINs that were ordered 12+ days after me that have already been delivered. Suffice to say, I expressed by deepest disappointment, though I acknowledged that it's not really his fault... just don't blow smoke up my @$$, please, by complimenting me on my config - and CERTAINLY don't patronize me by saying "you're not the only one." I know that, buddy... just trying to understand what the heck is going on because there is definitely no logic at play here.

Breathing.... Zen... patience....

If orders are increasing and demand is increasing, that makes me happy. Makes it even more worth it because that means Tesla is not going away anytime soon. We all took a risk on this company by putting down our hard earned cash (unless you have a rich uncle of course) and are all making sacrifices (i.e. driving 100 miles a day in a teeny Honda Fit so that I don't put miles on my trade in BMW).

At the very least it would be nice to have an acknowledgement and perhaps some form of "Thank you for your patience... by the way, here's some nice Tesla floor mats for your inconvenience." Or even better... "we couldn't get you your exact config when we said, so here's a nice new Performance series instead at no cost to you." (wishful thinking....)

Anyway, as I said before, only thing keeping me from going postal (not literally guys, relax) is this forum where I see excited folks that are in the same or worse situation I'm in. 1st world problems :)
