Well, he went somewhere for those 12 hours while the car sat on the stranger's lawn (we know he didn't sleep in the car). So he either walked to his nearby friend's place to spend the night or else he Ubered it home. The former seems more likely since he felt comfortable enough to leave his car there overnight as he was going to be close by.
The question remains as to why he didn't just stay with the car and charge for an hour and move the car to his friend's house where it could be charged the rest of the night so he could get to a Supercharger in the morning. If he were a friend of mine, such behavior would warrant his becoming an ex-friend.
