They are on target to hit almost exactly 200k US cars this quarter. If they are smart...and they are....they will try and keep it just under 200k in the US. They are expected to do ~40k cars in the US for all 3 models this quarter...so you might see them do more international Model S/X than normal this quarter to add another 3 months onto their full credits and phase out periods. Staying under 200k this quarter would keep the full credit through end of September. Then it would be 50% through EOM March 2019, and 25% through EOM Sept 2019.

Mine was also 2 weeks from configuration to delivery. With a Vin of 19xx it was clearly already made.

Yeah, same here, configured on Christmas eve, contacted by Tesla on Dec 30, car was ready to be picked up on Jan 5th (although we were out of town and could not pick up until the 8th). Also VIN 19XX. Snooping around the trunk I found a sticker with Dec.12 handwritten on it in sharpie. Interesting clue....

Hmmm. We've heard word that Tesla seems to be stockpiling Model 3s, with the speculation that they are attempting to maximize the number of cars delivered that will be eligible for the US $7,500 tax credit/rebate.

Now, if you already own *two* Teslas (wow!), then I believe you have maxed out your eligibility to claim that tax credit/rebate.

If that is so, then there is no reason to keep you twisting in the wind and you are able to go on over and pick up your little beauty.

Lucky devil.

[EDIT]

Okay, so I got a bit carried away. It isn't the Fed. Its the State.
The California Clean Vehicle Rebate Project puts a cap of $5,000 on your rebates, or, at $2,500 per car, that's a max of two cars.

One down, one to go.

OOh. Fast turnaround, wow.
Yes! I was quite surprised. I was expecting about a month. My theory is that Tesla had sent the car up here and either someone ended up not taking it or that Tesla is stockpiling cars on their best guess of what models will be popular. Maybe the 18 inch aero wheels with a loaded package in Midnight Silver was just the right combo at the right time to get my car quickly. I placed my reservation online as soon as the configurator opened up at the Model 3 reveal and I'm one of the first owners of a Model S and Model X. Maybe that helped as well?

Tough to say for sure, we don't have enough data to really know. I ordered on the 5th for a Midnight Silver with 18s (+EAP, FSD) for Fremont delivery and haven't heard a peep yet. Will be interesting to see when I end up taking delivery. Hopefully soon since my current car is being sold on Thursday and the forecasted rain isn't gonna be fun on the motorcycle ;)

I ordered my Model 3 last Wednesday, and was shocked to get word today from Tesla that I could pick my car up at the Fremont delivery center as early as this coming Tuesday! This was after having originally been given a four week estimate when placing the order. The VIN is 2786.

My Model S and X both took much longer to build (2-3x), so I’m pretty dang impressed by how quickly Tesla appears to be ramping up production!

Hope this turnaround time improvement makes those of you who have yet to get your invitation feel a bit better. Your day will come before you know it!
How long after you got your VIN did the delivery specialist give you a call?

If you are getting your car 13 days after ordering, and it's a 27xx VIN, then it had to be already made and waiting.

Why it was, no clue, but I think people who have gotten more recent VINS have waited longer.
