Parking Ticket !!! while supercharging.

also rasie this with Tesla UK.
It is not good for Tesla to have disaffected customers who have been penalised for charging at a supercharger.

As I have said elsewhere, this is simply remedied as the parking monitoring companies generally have access to the DVLA database and ought to be able to recognise a Tesla. Indeed this could be turned to Tesla advantage by using this to penalise ICE parking in supercharger bays - a much more worthy revenue stream.

I agree with you. - My fine notice from ParkingEye for the Campanile Northampton shows the car reg plate, and the fact that it is a Tesla, and that I was there for 38 minutes.
If I had been driving a Hummer and parked across three charging bays, but had registered at reception and stayed for 59 minutes, I would have been OK, instead I got a £100 fine.

Be careful then at the Heathrow charger as you have to register there and it's a good 5 minute walk to the reception. Also they issue you an exit ticket that has 15 minutes on it so its best to wait until about 15 minutes before you want to leave, walk over, get a ticket, then walk back and leave.

Unfortunately you are in the wrong. I use this charger a fair amount and there are signs stating that parking is only allow for 1 hour and you must register your car registration number with the hotel front desk within 10 minutes. This is also shown on the supercharger info on your map in the car.
Why do they require cars to register? Something I am not understanding about that.

The hotel car park requires all cars to register, not just ones at the Superchargers. The hotel is on a business park and they used to get other businesses staff parking there. Anyone can register their car but you only get 30 minutes. If you are staying at the hotel they extend it for the length of your stay.

In defense of David - where do you draw the line on what powers one can bestow on a private entity?

From your definition they are free to not only levy a fine, but any amount of fine? What stops them from making it $500 an hour fine or $2000?

Once you give them a carte-blanche right to institute any rule, how would you argue if their fines are say 10 times any reasonable parking fine in that area?

My point is - they have a responsibility to make sure the rules are clear and posted in a location that no way any owner can miss it easily. I would insist on a clear sign plastered right at the pedestal in big bold letters that read, “Register at front desk or pay fine”. Anything less is robbery.
It's called "[private] property rights," and if you really are in TX, then you've heard of them. ;) What?!? You want the gummint to tell private property owners what they can/can't do with their own property? Egad, man! That's the rankest socialism! (half kidding)

I do agree with your last paragraph and would suggest that that is a legitimate area for regulation. Don't get me started on how towing companies operate around here. Like bounty hunters.

I have tried to test reaction myself with a thread - which was probably too inflammatory ... I apologise.
Call for civil disobedience - Northampton Supercharger

However after a lot of balanced argument - and a split vote mrElbe gets my thanks for the best point on this subject

I think that if the owner of a charging site (regardless of the power output - 120kW - 50kW etc) wants to treat it as a Hotel Patrons Only location and PENALISE anyone who does not comply, (and especially if they demand £100 and go after Tesla drivers who either through ignorance or unfamiliarity, fail to follow the special rules - like registering at a terminal in a building somewhere), then that site should be treated as a DESTINATION CHARGER, and greyed out on the map.

Savvy users like Asterix187 will still go there, and not get caught, and tourists like me will be more cautious, furthermore, the site owners will realise that they can't have their cake and eat it - if they want our traffic at their site then they should stop using ParkingEye and other private parking pirates to punish us if we make an innocent mistake while charging.

I think the sign is obvious. Even for a foreigner like me.

Sorry. The whole thing stinks.

This is the outrage of privatizing public functions. Parking lot owners shouldn’t be allowed to give “parking tickets” for violations of their own arcane, arbitrary, capricious rules...

I received a warning at our local mall (and a threat I would be towed the next time) for supposedly parking improperly in an electric car spot! In 2016, the parking lot staff couldn’t recognize a Tesla as an electric car! I don’t shop there anymore.

I see this a lot, if it was a charging stall I hope you were plugged in. I see too many people not plugged in at these kind of spots, makes us all look like smug entitled people. Plus some people depend on these locations to charge.

They built two charging stalls but only installed one charger to be shared by the two stalls. Another car was plugged in and unattended when I arrived. Nothing for me to plug in to! Clearly a breakdown in communication between the owners interests (getting more shoppers), the architects, and the company paid to manage the garage. And my car was put in jeopardy by the cluster-F... ignoring completely the ignorance of the lot attendant.

Ah man that’s annoying. Sorry wasn’t my intent to jump the gun on you there.

People should always check in with management when using a charging station on private property.

Let them know you would like to plug in, and what restrictions are in place.

There might be an entitement mentality from the EV community, but you should always ask before plugging into some one's charging station.

Even Tesla Superchargers have their own rules, and often people staying too long can receive congestion charges for staying after charging is completed.

If the rules are posted, and you do not follow the rules, you are still subject to the rules, even if you do not like them.

UPDATE on my £100 fine now cancelled

1. Tesla got involved - they contacted the hotel.

I have received the following reply back from the hotel. They have put a request in to cancel the parking fine. If parking eye reject the claim then the parking fine is still valid. The manager will only hear back from parking eye if the cancellation is rejected for whatever reason.

“Hi Thomas,
The customer will get a cancelation letter through the post - it usually takes 3 weeks.
I will only be informed if they do not accept the cancelation.
Regards
Massimo”

Please let me know if you haven’t received a confirmation letter in a few weeks time. Also could you please let me know once the letter has been received?
Kind regards

2. I also appealed the fine with ParkingEye - they rejected the appeal, and then I was allowed to make a further appeal to POPLA, and got this reply yesterday.

Thank you for submitting your parking charge Appeal to POPLA.
An Appeal has been opened with the reference 6062958675.
Parking Eye Ltd have told us they do not wish to contest the Appeal. This means that your Appeal is successful and you do not need to pay the parking charge.
Yours sincerely
POPLA Team

I can only guess that ParkingEye backed off thanks to Tesla putting pressure on the Hotel, and the Hotel telling ParkingEye to drop it. I am not the first person to go through this, and I am afraid I probably won't be the last.

Hopefully Tesla will get tired of having to intervene and they will just tell ParkingEye to stop sending fines to Tesla drivers. As you can see from the fine notice, it is pretty blatant - TESLA and 38 minutes .... WTF did they think I was doing there, if not charging?
