proper sub woofer disconnect

Hey Guys, I'm doing some sound project and want to remove the subwoofer (doesn't need to disconnect if not necessary)
I heard of people frying the amp and other horror stories about it.
One of the nuts holding the subwoofer/amp in place is actually the ground, so i'm hesitant to just unbolt and take it out with the wires attached.

Does anyone know how to do it properly?

thanks in advance :)

It depends on what wiring is going to be disconnected. If it's an all in one unit, you need to protect the bare wires since one should be power and one should be ground and will make a bright and brief light show if they touch. If the amp is to remain in the car and only the sub/enclosure is to be removed, there are various ways to disconnect the speaker wires and protect the amp. An XT60 connector would work great in this case.
