From everything I've heard, your spiffy new detector will be constantly alerting because of radar emissions from many different car models, including every Model S and Model X. Once I found that out, I decided to pass.

it all depends on the quality of the detector
if you get crappy ones yes it will false like crazy
I've had the redline for years and the only falsing I've gotten is from the google self driving cars with laser
depending on where you live it may not be worth it

I have it personally as a safety net just in case but the majority of CHP just run laser now and if you get lasered it's pretty much a done deal
However they do have their KA gun on from time to time so it's nice knowing one's hiding around

Escort is my personal favorite although the Valentine 1 fan's will say otherwise. Also, I think cobra is now part of EScort or something so their quality of radar detectors have improved dramatically.

I have the spiffy Escort Redline 360c and it works great ! Filters out all radar from other cars and other false alarms. I was so used to false alarms with my old detector that I thought something was wrong with it. Not cheap, but currently the best on the market. Radenso is supposedly coming out with a model called the Theia which is supposed to have greater and newer technology than everything currently out there.

I have a brand new Valentine One Generation 2 radar detector. I’ve had few false alarms and it’s already saved me numerous times. It’s Ka band is crazy how early it alerts me to highway patrol.

I've been using a Uniden R7. Not 100%, but use with Waze and you should be covered.

Hello Teslaians! I’m thinking about getting a Uniden R3 for my Plaid and was wondering how this unit works in a Tesla, and what kind of Tesla related issues may arise? Thoughts/advice?

Valentine one. I disabled K band. Never get false alerts.

I have a Uniden R3. I also disabled the K band to avoid false alert from door opener. This is a great radar detector. As for Laser, you have to react very fast. If the laser gun is far, it may take few seconds to get a reading. If it is close, it is about 1 second after getting the alert. This is where having Waze is important. It is bad that Waze cannot run properly in the Tesla screen or that CarPlay is not integrated.

Not the newer more high end detectors, such as the Uniden R7, blocks all those signals and then some...

Its incorrect info. New Radar can be programed to pick up frequencies being used in your area. There are Radar Detector forums that will give you the correct settings.

Yeah, zero issues with my Uniden R4 in my Plaid.

Zero. I have the R4. It’s rated for up to 16v, per the manual.
