On my previous car - 2016 X3, I had to clean the rear camera daily. It became a routine to clean it before entering the house so that I have some visibility next morning. Visibility is awful without cleaning after a rain or road salt.

Tesla is definitely no worse in this respect.

Done. Have the camera retract into a housing so it only exposed to elements when called into action. VW, Mercedes have implemented this already. I can’t speak to how well it works or whether it risks for more issues as the plastic motor track get gunked up over time with dust or debris.

Chevrolet uses a spray nozzle linked to the windshield washer reservoir to clean off the camera when it gets gunked up. I never have to worry about wiping down my rear view camera on the Bolt.

Hell yeah! I was stage 1 high torque APR with all the bolts on. Didn’t want to deal with emissions here in Mass. miss the car every day but that’ll change once my Y comes in.

That was a fun car to drive. 0-60 in 3.4 sec (slightly faster than my MYP). I miss the DSG fart. =)

I agree- every car I've driven that has a rear camera has needed periodic cleaning. Road salt in the winter certainly doesn't help. A retractable system like some people have described would help; I don't know if Tesla uses the rear camera at all while driving or not. If it does then retracting it isn't an option.

Tesla uses rear camera that records especially for dash cam system. So, retractable is not an option.

our y and 3 undoubtedly have the worst rain blur issues we’ve experienced. Once you get reliant on the backup camera, it can be jarring when you need to back up in the dark with rain pouring. Rain x doesn’t help. Wondering if a simple lens roof/lip could help but if it’s water splashing up, then that would be trickier.

Are your images for the rear camera bad during rain?

Same on my two Model 3’s.

Some suggest using something like rain-x to move the drops along.

Tesla uses rear camera that records especially for dash cam system. So, retractable is not an option.

Also for FSD. It sees any cars coming up fast behind you in the passing lane and moves over for them.

As a Tesla owner, you get accustomed to backing into a spot. It's nearly impossible with this happening.

I don’t have fsd but there’s no way I would trust it’s rear “vision” due to the water spot build up issue. Without radar I’m not sure how a blurred view would work for fsd or human vision.

it is not even on the market and no one knows how it will work, so don't be so excited yet. You can get the same or better result by applying several coat of ceramic coat (not the spray on type).

Also, I said "camera lens that is exposed to the environment", which doesn't apply to your picture of "lens cover".
