2015 BMW 335i xDrive - Instrumented Test

Zero to 60 mph: 4.6 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 13.3 sec @ 105 mph

2016 BMW 328i Automatic - Instrumented Test
C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 5.2 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 13.9 sec @ 99 mph

well model 3 is not out yet, so the best comparison will be against 70, and 70d.

70d:
Car and Driver
C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 5.1 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 13.8 sec @ 101 mph

no data to back up 70, but 70 will be slower than D

the number doesn't lie, 70d barely matches 2016 b48 328i, let alone catch 335xi. now 335xi is no longer in production, 340xi is even faster.

next gen G series 3 class will be using carbon core frame, yes it has a mixture of carbon fiber and aluminum. being faster and lighter than the current 340i is given.

bottom line: stop saying model 3 is fast, when you have no idea what the competitors are performing.

My last 3 cars: 335, M3 and M3

Current car: 90D

Next Car: Model 3

Next BMW or other gas car: Never

I was once exactly like you. Beating my chest about lap times and Ring times and other stuff that I eventually realized was pointless. M3s and other cars like it are on the way out. The M3 has already been super watered down - electric steering, turbos, piped in/fake engine/exhaust noise playing through the speakers, etc. Enjoy it while you can, I guess.

You'll come around eventually.

No data? How about the fact that you choose two numbers that in reality are useless to compare ICE cars and electric cars. ICE cars achieve these numbers by revving up the engine in "launch mode" in a way nobody ever does in real life. If you look at the 5-60 rolling start times you get a much more realistic view of how fast the car actually is (versus useless statistics that only matter at the track):

BMW 328i: 6.3 seconds
BMW 340xi: 6.2 seconds

Tesla 70d: 5.1 seconds

Stop saying BMWs are fast, when you have no idea what how people actually drive.

Gregincal: You are so right! Nobody except testosterone filled teenagers or guys with size inferiority complexes would launch a car like they do in the 0-60 tests. 5-60 is much more real world, and there Tesla's take the cake. I have ZERO desire to buy a BMW. On the other hand, I'm drooling all over the floor at my Model 3.

I see he's still comparing to the 70D.

How about comparing to the P90D.
