Is that because of location? I assume they assign the vin when the car is either about to be built or just finished, so West Coast would be a lot quicker than East?

I think so, but it depends on many factors like how busy your center is, if there’s capacity for delivery…etc. East coast definitely takes longer.
So i just received an email requesting final payment and had me accept the tesla vision statement. Then i went to my dashboard and now it says 2022 model y for my order! But still no vin. I must be getting a vin any day now? Edd 11/14-11/26.
OD 9/6..MYP Black/Black no tow/FSD..Marina Del Ray pick-up...EDD changes 2nd day into every EDD window...currently pushed now to 11/8-12/8...at one point I had an EDD of 9/28-9/30 during EOQ. No VIN..SA gives me the same BS...no Black MYP are being built that we can match you to...should be in a few weeks.
My main reason for pulling trigger was because I was told by SA 3-4 weeks when I ordered on 9/6. I'll keep waiting, enjoy the vehicle when I get it because it is an awesome piece of technology, but I don't/won't hold the Tesla customer communication or service (from previous M3P vehicle) in high regard. I would also say most Tesla SA's are worthless...they should just keep everything AI via text/email. I really think Tesla and Elon don't give AF about the customer experience.

WOW looking at your older post your OD was 10/17 and you got VIN already? The 2022 MYP have VINs starting with a 7.

this sucks along side this rona crap, we been sick for a whole week now.Just got my vin this evening and its a 2022 model. OD was 10/4. I did see another person on this forum in Minnesota with simalar OD also get a vin recently, must be regional.
Yikes. It ain't no joke for sure, June 2020, some of my neighbors went out for dinner to "celebrate" the "end" of lockdown. ... 3 were dead from the virus within 2 weeks ... apparently the chef was sick and reported to work any way. Take care of yourself first, these Tesla's ain't going anywhere. ...
... Well ... I mean ... you know what I mean. Just get better soon.
Congrats! Was possibly me, now I'm trying to get them to unassign the 2021 vin so I can get a 2022 like the rest of you...

Congratulations!! but man, several including myself ordered before you...tesla is causing Mass, mostly avoidable, frustration in their customer base
You both got 2022 MSM/Black with Tow with OD in October. Must be the MSM/Black batch shipping east.
